The subject of ship telematics will be prominently featured at the upcoming SHIPPINGInsight 2015 Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition, which takes place in Stamford, Conn., Oct. 13-14.

Big Data, connected ships and cyber security will be the exclusive focus on Day 2 of the conference with industry leaders from telecommunications and IT suppliers and users sharing their experience and expertise.

Shane Rossbacher, senior vice president of business development, Inmarsat, will open the Ship Telematics session as keynote speaker. He will be followed by two panels of speakers covering Ship Telematics Infrastructure and Solutions. The session will wrap-up with a roundtable of experts discussing Connected Ships & Cyber Security.

Speakers include senior executives from companies like Inmarsat, Iridium, Marlink, and World-Link Communications.

“Big Data is one of the hottest subjects in the world maritime industry this year,” said conference co-director Jim Rhodes. “That’s why we’ve decided to make it a primary focus for SHIPPINGInsight 2015.”

“Big Data can bring Big Value, but can also entail Big Risk,” Rhodes added. “Many legacy shipboard and shoreside telecommunications and IT infrastructure systems were not designed for adequate protection against hacking. Our roundtable of experts will offer their perspective on the vulnerability to cyber attacks and state-of-the-art solutions to prevent them.”

“The SHIPPINGInsight events are designed to bring together shipping companies and technology suppliers to address the challenges of ship and fleet optimization,” said conference co-director Frank Soccoli. “Our goal is to create an atmosphere where shipowners can get actionable intelligence to operate ships more efficiently and profitably.”
