10 HII Shipbuilding Employees Honored at Black Engineer of the Year Awards
10 Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) employees from the company's Newport News Shipbuilding and Ingalls Shipbuilding divisions were recognized for achievements in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields during the 29th annual Black Engineer of the Year Award STEM Global Competitiveness Conference. The conference took place Feb. 5-7 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.
HII employees John Banks, Brandon Booker, Dannon Butts, C. Mike Jones, Theodore Roosevelt, Malcom Jones, Anthony Norton Jr, David Orie, Derrick Scott, Tavarius Urquhart, and Jenell Webb were honored at the conference.
BEYA's top award, the Black Engineer of the Year, went to Ed Welburn, vice president of global design at General Motors Company. Welburn is the 29th Black Engineer of the Year and the first-ever African American design chief in automobile history.
