Bay Ship & Yacht Launches Blue Thunder

Bay Ship & Yacht has launched the high-performance yacht, Blue Thunder, marking the shipyard’s entry into the custom-built sport-yachting market.  With a service speed of 32 knots, a flank speed of 42 knots, and a draft of less than three ft, the Blue Thunder offers the speed and performance of a high-performance sport yacht.  The custom interior is crafted with veneered, ultra-light honeycomb-cored panels, with a satin varnish finish.  The boat has a 42-ft hull and a 10-ft beam, and is built with a light-weight wood/epoxy/fiberglass composite.  Designed by the famed naval architect, William Garden, the boat is powered by twin turbo-charged Volvo D4 300 out-drive engines.

Located on San Francisco Bay, opposite the Golden Gate in Alameda, Bay Ship & Yacht is fully equipped to build custom-designed, high-performance yachts, such as the Blue Thunder, up to 100 ft in length.  Established in 1977, the yard initially built fishing boats and later expanded its facilities to accommodate both aluminum and steel commercial vessels, tour boats, and the growing ferry fleet on San Francisco Bay.  The yard is also one of the key facilities on the West Coast for maintaining sport and mega yachts up to 390 ft in length.
