Seaspan was recognized as a recipient of the Blue Circle Award at an Awards Ceremony in Vancouver last night, presented by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA). The Blue Circle Award recognizes marine carriers that excel in environmental stewardship and attain the highest participation rates in the Vancouver Port Authority’s EcoAction Program.

“We’re very proud to be recognized by the VFPA for our efforts. As a leader in the marine industry, we firmly stand behind our commitment to care for the environment, and integrate this value into company-wide practices,” said Frank Butzelaar, CEO of Seaspan Marine Transportation. “By holding ourselves accountable to the highest degree of environmental protection, we are ensuring our economic contributions and the integrity of BC’s natural marine environment are enjoyed for generations to come.”

Over the past year, Seaspan has implemented several environmental initiatives, including a strategic partnership with VFPA to monitor underwater vessel noise, an integrated waste reduction plan in its Shipyards, and the introduction of the company’s first dual-fueled hybrid ferries.
