NMT Propulsion Course Earns First Pamas Certification

The Pamas certification is the first Dutch certification for technical, maritime academic trainings. This certification is an official recognition for the high quality of the NMT Marine Propulsion course. Participants who pass the exam of this course receive an official certificate that proofs that they have acquired in-depth knowledge required for the design of these systems.

Together, three modules of the Marine Propulsion training series have been awarded the first ever Pamas certification (module 1 ‘Propulsion Plant Concepts and Basic Ship Hydrodynamics’, module 3 ‘Diesel Engines and Gas Turbines’ and module 5 ‘Matching Propulsion Engine and Propulsor’). Participants that are enrolled for all these three modules together can apply for the special NMT Marine Propulsion Pamas certificate. This entails that the Pamas participants get extra assignments to practice the theory explained during the three modules and they get personal guidance by the teachers.

Special NMT Marine Propulsion Pamas certificate
At the end of the three modules the Pamas participants will take an exam. When passed they will receive the special NMT Marine Propulsion Pamas certificate. This is the proof and recognition that the participants have acquired in-depth knowledge of marine propulsion systems and can use this knowledge in the design of such systems. Participants who have completed the first, third and fifth module of the Marine Propulsion training series in previous years may also apply for a NMT Marine Propulsion Pamas certificate.

All five modules of the entire Marine Propulsion training series remain open for participants who do not wish to pursue the Pamas certificate. And it is also possible to follow each of the five modules separately.

The Marine Propulsion training series is developed together with Delft University of Technology and is taught by professor Douwe Stapersma and assistant professor Peter de Vos of the faculty Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering. The series start in September, however (former) participants can apply for the Pamas certificate twice a year (April and September).

The Pamas certification
The Pamas certification is a new certification by and from the maritime industry and knowledge centres for courses on academic level. The goal of Pamas is to stimulate and facilitate a program of technical, maritime academic professional trainings that are of recognized high quality. Participants who pass the exams of such trainings receive an official recognition. The Pamas secretariat is hosted by Maritime by Holland.
