Twenty college students preparing for careers in engineering, law, marketing and more have started paid summer internships at the Port of Oakland.

For the next two months, interns will be involved in the port’s daily operations while learning technical skills on a wide range of assignments at the port’s maritime, aviation and commercial real estate businesses. They will also have a “hands on” opportunity to work on the port’s major development projects.

“Our interns represent the future workforce of the Port of Oakland and the region,” said Port of Oakland Director of Social Responsibility Amy Tharpe. “These talented students will receive real-world experience which will make them more valuable to prospective employers after graduation.”

Another six high school students through the City of Oakland’s Earn & Learn Program will also join the port’s intern team in mid-July.
