Port Canaveral staff were on hand to welcome the captain and crew of the Höegh Sydney roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) vessel on her inaugural visit to the Port.

The Sydney’s arrival at Port Canaveral is the first U.S. port call for the vessel on a transit that originated in East Asia. The Höegh Autoliners vessel represents the fourth vehicle carrier to call on Port Canaveral and the first auto imports to arrive direct from Asia.
More than 800 cars destined for Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina dealerships arrived at Port Canaveral on the Höegh Sydney and were discharged within six hours of the vessel’s arrival.
“The first vehicle to roll off Höegh Sydney signifies Port Canaveral’s entrance into the direct from Asia import market. The growing Central Florida region is driving increased RO/RO business for our Port,” said Port CEO Captain John Murray. “We are the ideal gateway to that high demand, high consuming market and proud of our partners at AutoPort Canaveral, LLC as they expand operations here at the Port.”
In keeping with Port tradition, Captain Murray presented a plaque and key to the Captain and crew of the Höegh Sydney followed by a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony. New automobiles immediately began rolling off the ramp and scheduled for processing through the AutoPort Canaveral, LLC facility at Port Canaveral.
Port Canaveral’s partnership with RO/RO terminal operator, AutoPort Canaveral, LLC has expanded opportunities for the growing cargo business. Utilizing the new 16 acre auto-terminal, Port Canaveral is the principle port of export to Central America and the Middle East for heavy equipment and trucks used in forestry, mining and agriculture.
On the import side, new vehicles from Mexico and Asia arrive at Port Canaveral destined to meet the high-demand central and south Florida markets. Located within four hours of every Florida market, the cars imported into Port Canaveral can be efficiently delivered to auto dealerships throughout Central and South Florida and the Southeastern United States.
