Maritime London and the Shipping Professional Network in London (SPNL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two associations at Mansion House on the October 24.

The MoU outlines mutual cooperation between the members of the two organizations toward the promotion and enhancement of London, and the rest of the U.K. as a premier maritime center.

Maritime London and SPNL intend to focus on creating better understanding and networking opportunities between young shipping professions from SPNL and Maritime London's senior shipping professionals, with Maritime London becoming an Industry Affiliate of the SPNL.

The MoU was signed by Lord Mountevans, Maritime London's chairman currently serving as the Lord Mayor of the City of London, and Claudio Chiste, chairman of SPNL. Also present were Maritime London Director Peter Ahlås, Chief Executive Doug Barrow, and Directors Jeremy Penn and Rodney Lenthal.

"It is really encouraging that signing this MoU will further cement our relationship with tomorrows maritime business leaders giving more opportunity for them to engage with their future," Barrow said. "Whilst many longstanding members of our industries have gained experience over time, that they can share with SPNL members, it is important that the leaders of tomorrow engage and participate in shaping that future. We look forward a closer and more frequent relationship between the members of Maritime London and SPNL."
