Offshore Contract for Noble Denton and GL

Monday, November 9, 2009

Noble Denton and Germanischer Lloyd (GL) will support European leading utilities cooperative Trianel GmbH with technical support and project management of its 400 MW offshore wind farm Borkum West II. The installation of the first phase is scheduled to start in 2011/2012. It consists of 40 of the planned 80 turbines on the site and the Offshore Substation. The wind farm will be located approximately 45 km north of the German island of Borkum. The site is immediately adjacent to the smaller Alpha Ventus site which is currently under development.

Noble Denton will support Trianel during the pre-construction phase project development and will be in charge with the appropriate project management systems. The project will be lead by an integrated project management team comprising of Trianel and Noble Denton staff members.

Noble Denton will conduct the programme management and interface management. The project team will provide technical consulting, package management, project logistics management, development of capital expenditure models and identifying suppliers for the construction phase.

GL Renewables will conduct Health and Safety support services, operation and maintenance modeling as well as consulting for technical permitting requirements. In addition, Garrad Hassan, a worldwide renewable energy consultancy and acknowledged authority on wind energy and also part of GL Group, will provide consultancy support to the project team during the negotiations for the turbine contract and for electrical systems design.

GL's active participation in national standardisation expert groups for HSE (health, safety and environment) and design requirements brings in-depth knowledge in those fields for the offshore wind farms. GL also contributes its expertise and tools about logistical infrastructure, wave climate and access conditions as well as typical failure rate data. All factors are influencing operations and maintenance costs.
