Megayacht Electro-magnetic Propulsion System a World First

Monday, October 15, 2012

The  45m megayacht project involves KaiserWerft, Franck Muller Yacht Design & Engineering and Voith.

The semi displacement 45 m yacht will be fully built in Kevlar and Carbon and the (electromagnetic) propulsion is to be powered by a Diesel electric system with new electric propellers from Voith Germany, as part of the Voith Inline Propulsor System, driven by an integrated permanent magnetic (PM) synchronous ring motor.

The diesel electric system should result in less fuel consumption, less pollution and reduction of sound, vibration, which will provide this Green Star yacht with very low specific fuel consumption.

The hull is completely thermo isolated for high energy efficiency. It will have solar panels and battery pack for electric supply and for totally silent night hours the yacht will have an installation of Lithium Batteries. Just in case, the hull and the windows are all to be bulletproof.

Exterior design of the new model will be jointly done by Kaiserwerft and Franck Muller; engineering and naval architecture will be in-house by Kaiserwerft . The yacht´s luxury interior design will be made by Franck Muller, and the first yacht when ready will be owned by Franck Muller himself.
