Mazumdar New Head of UK Ship Register

We are pleased to confirm that Debasis Mazumdar will take over as Head of UK Ship Register/Customer Service Team Manager from 1 June 2011.  Debasis was previously the MCA ISM/ISO Policy Manager and will bring valuable experience and knowledge to the role.  He was a Chief Engineer at sea and worked for 10 years as a Class Society Senior Surveyor for ABS prior to joining the MCA seven years ago.  During his time at the MCA Debasis has worked as a Marine Surveyor, Port State Control Officer, ISM/ISO/ISPS Lead Auditor and Customer Service Manager.

Debasis said: "This is an interesting and diverse role and I am looking forward to getting out and meeting our customers/new ship owners/managers/shipyard executives and stakeholders and listening to their views and suggestions.  At the end of April 2011 the UK Ship Register reached 17.75m GT and has been steadily increasing over the past decade.  I will be joining the UKSR team in order to continue this growth and to maintain our reputation for quality by working with quality owners and quality ships on the UK Flag"
