As Gateway Terminals India (GTI) (one of the private terminal at JNPort, a JV between APM Terminals (APMT) and state-owned rail operator Container Corporation of India) is facing shutdown in operations due to the strike of contractor's employees engaged by Cargotek handling yard crane operations demanding their absorption in GTI pay roll, JNPort has made an all-out effort to regularise the traffic in and around the port.
Some of the vessels meant for APMT terminal is being handled at neighbouring terminal of NSICT and NSIGT and JNPCT is handling the reefer export cargoes of GTI. In order to handle these additional vessels over and above their own window vessels, there was lot of pressure on the gates of these terminals and the queue of export Boxes had become long. In order to ease out congestion, the traffic is being diverted to GTI and NSICT parking area for parking of undocumented factory stuffed containers and simultaneously diverted to the newly developed centralised parking plaza by JNPT. The team of JNPT Officers/NSICT Officers are assisting the Traffic police involved in the duty of diverting the traffic and normalising the traffic.
Some of the CFS were also requested not to release all containers in one go but in batches. With proper monitoring during whole day the long queue has been brought under control by 8th evening. During evening even the trailers which were shifted to parking areas whose documentation was over, were taken out from the parking areas and taken inside the terminals. The terminal operators have also provided food packets and tea to the drivers outside their gates so that the drivers waiting with their trailers can get some relief.
All these additional effort was made to minimize the suffering of trade to the extent possible and no inconvenience is caused to the general public.Port authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation and every possible step is being taken to ensure that normalcy is restored at the earliest.
