Imabari Bags Order for 11 ULCCs

Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Imabari), with the cooperation of Marubeni Corporation, has secured newbuilding order for eleven (11) units of 20,000TEU Ultra-Large Container Carriers, the largest type container carriers in the world as of today.

These state of the art newbuilding vessels have been developed for overseas ship-owners, fully adopting eco-friendly feature and most advanced energy efficiency technology.

She has dimensions of about 400m in length with about 59m breadth. The first vessel is scheduled to be completed in early 2018.

Imabari is very proud of having built over 200 container carriers, including 4,800TEU Over-Panamax type in 1995 that was the largest in the world at that time, and 8,100TEU type in 2008.

In March this year, 14,000TEU type now the largest in Japan is scheduled to be completed. "We have been developing large size container carriers in order to respond to increasing ocean going cargo movement in the world," stated a spokesman of hte company.

Through developing higher quality and better design, Imabari will push forward to constructing new building vessels more attentively with great care, in order to contribute to safe voyage and world ocean transportation.
