Residents in North Sydney are upset and angry over the proposed sale of the Archibald Wharf, demanding answers on plans to sell the municipally owned wharf. The buyer has second thoughts now.
According to a section of Australian media, a ship repair firm has had second thoughts about investing in its North Sydney operation after a public backlash over its plans to buy Archibald’s Wharf from Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
Residents protested the sale of public property on the waterfront at a recent public meeting . Many say they want jobs in the area, but not at the expense of the waterfront green space at Archibald’s Wharf.
“I want to let the public know that we’re rethinking the decision to invest in Cape Breton … based on the negative reception that we got from last weekend’s event,” Tony Kennedy, president of Canadian Maritime Engineering, was reported to have said.
