ESPO Congratulates Maja Markovčić Kostelac, New Executive Director of EMSA

Ms. Maja Markovčić Kostelac is taking over as new executive director of the European Maritime Safety Authority's (EMSA).

The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) has issued a statement congratulating Kostelac, for taking over.

Ms Markovčić Kostelac, who has served as the Croatian State Secretary for the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, will take up her five-year term at the beginning of 2019.

She has been an Administrative Board member of EMSA since January 2017.  In 2008, she obtained her LL.M. in maritime law and law of the sea at the Faculty of Law, University of Split, with the topic Implementation of the International Convention on Ballast Water 2004 in closed and semi-enclosed seas, with special attention to the Adriatic.

"ESPO takes this opportunity to wish Ms Markovic Kostelac a very successful start to her mandate," said the statement.

"ESPO would like to express its gratitude to the current Executive Director of EMSA, Mr. Markku Mylly, for his services to the maritime industry. Mr Mylly, who is retiring at the end of this year after a 46-year career, has been always very keen to take into account ports’ views and concerns," it added.
