Grant from the MTU Environmental Foundation to promote the environmental protection of Lake Constance; Environmental protection a major corporate mission of the Tognum Group.

For the fourth time, the MTU Environmental Foundation is inviting tenders for a grant of 20,000 euros for environmental protection projects on Lake Constance. The invitation to tender issued by Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen is addressed to those engaged in specific teaching or training projects or in schemes for renaturation or species conservation to be enacted in the period 2014-15.

“The MTU Environmental Foundation is a key component in Tognum’s overall sustainability philosophy. With our location directly on Lake Constance, we are aware of our social responsibility and we support and promote projects aimed at protecting Lake Constance,” explained Michael Spiegel, Chairman of MTU’s Environmental Foundation board. “Our idea in offering a grant is to encourage young people in particular to realize a scientific research project involving Lake Constance.”

MTU Friedrichshafen set up the foundation in 2004 with an endowment capital of over half-a-million euros. In cooperation with the lake research institute in Langenargen, the foundation promotes projects that sustain and restore the lake’s bio-diversity and the natural resources it offers for human beings, flora and fauna. Previously sponsored activities included fish-friendly renaturation of Lake Constance, the restoration of alluvial forests, and a study of the impact of micro-pollutants on a species of shrimp found in the Schussen and Argen, two tributaries of Lake Constance.

Tenders for the grant can be submitted up to November 15, 2013. The MTU Environmental Foundation only accepts submissions covering no more than two DIN-A4 pages. A selection will be made by the end of the year. Contact: Michael Spiegel, Maybachplatz 1, 88045 Friedrichshafen; email: michael.spiegel@mtu-online.com; tel.: 07541 90 4805.
