Donjon Marine Co., Inc., a provider of multi-faceted marine services including marine salvage, heavy lift, dredging, related emergency response services, and most recently shipbuilding and repair, was mobilized from its base in Port Newark, New Jersey to provide an emergency pumping capability in response to the devastation resulting from Hurricane Sandy.
Donjon holds the U.S. Navy Salvage and Related Services contract for the North Atlantic zone. The U.S. Navy provided support to the stricken region as a result of a request by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. By mobilizing its equipment, Donjon was able to provide comprehensive “soup to nuts” support to the U.S. Navy effort.
Launching a rapid response, Donjon provided over 80,000 gallons per minute of pumping capability within 36 hours of the initial call. In addition, Donjon mobilized a team of over 50 salvage personnel to place and operate the pumping and support equipment. The Donjon team worked alongside many other responders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Navy, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York City Police and Fire Departments, and representatives of various New York City transportation organizations.
