Crowley Maritime Corp. is providing shipping services to The Blood Alliance of Northeast Florida as they work to give a retired bloodmobile new purpose in Haiti this week.
The bloodmobile will be donated for use as a Zanmi Lasante mobile health clinic serving more than three million people. Zanmi Lasante is a division of Boston’s Partners for Health, the largest nongovernmental provider of health care in the country, which has also worked for more than 25 years to build and strengthen Haiti’s healthcare system.
The bloodmobile was shipped from Crowley’s Port Everglades, Fla., terminal on Sunday, April 5, and is expected to arrive in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, today.
Crowley said it has an ongoing commitment to Haiti, which it has served with reliable container shipping and logistics services for decades. Following the 2010 earthquake that devastated the island nation, Crowley was a critical provider of life-saving marine solutions, emergence response, salvage and shipping and logistics support services.
“Crowley is very proud to be able to continue providing support services to the people of Haiti,” said the company’s Tony Otero, vice president, Caribbean services. “Not only do we provide regular and reliable sailings between Haiti and the United States, but it is our hope to continue providing other support services, such as relocating this repurposed bloodmobile, to benefit all those living on the island.”
