Superior Energy Services (Superior) announce that the Houston Business Journal (HBJ) has recognized Blaine Edwards, a Superior assistant general counsel, as the Best Associate General Counsel of a Small Legal Department for the 2013 Best Corporate Counsel Awards.

Founded eight years ago, this program seeks to recognize the most prominent companies and top, in-house lawyers who contributed to Houston’s economic success this past year.

As the only in-house litigator at Superior, Edwards considers his job very challenging and rewarding. He is responsible for a varied, worldwide docket of cases. On an average day, Blaine is required to solve a host of legal issues that could include labor law issues, arbitrations, collection actions or personal injury cases. Edwards sees his current role as Superior’s in-house litigator as the pinnacle of his career.

HBJ’s Best Corporate Counsel ceremony took place on Sept. 26, 2013, at Hotel ZaZa with the 45 finalists and winners in attendance. David Dunlap, Superior’s president and CEO, and Bill Masters, Superior’s executive vice president & general counsel, also attended the event. The winners were nominated by their peers with the interviews and selection process conducted by an outside judging panel.

“Blaine takes pride in his work, and we believe this award is not only a reflection of his personal accomplishments but also recognizes the caliber of employees at Superior Energy Services,” said President and CEO David Dunlap. “Blaine works countless hours, and I value his continual support, guidance and leadership within the company.”

Edwards has been with Superior for five years and a practicing lawyer for 23 years. He is on the board of directors for Bo’s Place, a non-profit bereavement center offering grief support services for children, families and adults. He is also a magna cum laude graduate from St. Mary’s University School of Law.
