Contship Italia Signs Iran MoU

Contship Italia Spa, also on behalf of Eurogate GmbH & Co. KGaA, KG, recently signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.) with Sina Port & Marine Company (SPMCO), part of SINA Group which is one of the largest Iranian companies, with interests in various economic activities, such as health care, pension, banking, logistic infrastructure, ports and maritime activities as well as manufacturing and insurance.

SPMCO is a public company, organized and existing under Iranian law. SPMCO is the largest port operator in Iran (listed in the Teheran stock exchange) and affiliate company of Bonyad Mostafazan Foundation (BMF) known also as BOBACO which was established in 1997 and is today  one of the largest holding company of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The parties agreed to cooperate through the exchange of experience and know-how on various aspects, including:
• upgrade of technical, commercial and operational capabilities to the best international standards and practices;
• support for the definition of Container Terminal Business Plans;
• cooperation for the Iran’s ports and logistic development, with a specific focus on the ports of Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, currently managed by SPMCO, and their related inland terminals;
• potential further cooperation in other Iranian ports and logistic activities.

This M.O.U. represents a great opportunity and milestone for the involved countries in this historical period marked by a new level of economic cooperation and political relationships.
