The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that this season, Sig Hansen, captain of the F/V Northwestern and star of Discovery’s Deadliest Catch, has selected the Foundation to be his designated charity on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice.

The next season of the show, which begins airing this January, includes sixteen celebrity contestants who try to raise money and awareness for their chosen charities. Every week, the celebrity contestants work in teams to compete in business-driven tasks to win challenges. The winner will deliver a $250,000 check to his or her designated charity.

“We’re honored that Captain Sig Hansen has chosen to benefit the Coast Guard Foundation as his charity of choice for the 2015 season of Celebrity Apprentice,” said Anne Brengle, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “As a fisherman working in the difficult, dangerous conditions of the Bering Sea, Sig knows firsthand how important the men and women of the Coast Guard are to mariners at sea. The much-deserved recognition his appearance will shine on the bravery and commitment of the men and women of the Coast Guard is a wonderful gift in its own right. We wish him much success on the show!”

Born in Seattle, Washington, Captain Sig is a fourth-generation fisherman who began his career at the age of 14. Sig and his two brothers, Edgar and Norman Hansen are the current owners of the Northwestern. In addition to his duties as a captain, Hansen is also a corporate speaker, philanthropist and best-selling author of "North by Northwest." Captain Sig had a voiceover role in "Cars 2," involvement in developing the "Deadliest Catch" Xbox game, an induction into the Norwegian Hall of Fame, and has a complete line of Northwestern-branded clothing and gear.
