Executives from major classification societies will be sharing their expertise with maritime industry colleagues at the 2013 Fleet Optimization Conference, which is scheduled for Oct. 23-24 in Stamford, Conn.

The keynote speaker Oct. 24 will be Yasushi Nakamura, executive vice president, ClassNK, who will talk on “Leveraging Technology for Efficiency in Ship Operations.”

Other speakers from classification societies will include:

•  Thomas Kirk, director of environmental programs, American Bureau of Shipping – “Green Ship Design”
•  Dr. Gerd-Michael Würsig, LNG business director, and Alexandros Chiotopoulos, consultant, Det Norske Veritas  – “A Systematic Approach to Being LNG Ready”
•  Ginger Garte, environmental business development manager, Lloyd’s Register – “Meeting Environmental Challenge”

“The conference serves as a forum for stakeholders from all segments of the maritime industry to come together and address the challenges of operating ships more efficiently in the difficult economic climate faced by today’s shipping companies,” said Jim Rhodes, conference co-producer. “This year’s conference will have a special focus on LNG as a marine fuel, including a dedicated LNG Workshop with a distinguished group of panelists. Classification societies are taking a leading role in addressing the technical issues involved in converting ships to LNG and creating the necessary infrastructure to bunker ships with LNG around the world.”

“We have assembled an impressive lineup of speakers, moderators and panelists, including senior executives from more than 17 major shipowners and ship management companies,” said Frank Soccoli, conference co-producer. “They will be joined by experts from shipyards, naval architects, industry consultants, engine manufacturers and suppliers of products and services as well as classification societies.”
