U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne toured NorSea Group’s U.K. headquarters during a visit to Aberdeen this week.  During the tour, Walter Robertson, MD of NorSea Group, gave the Minister an update on the work the company is carrying out in support of the subsea, construction and decommissioning sectors.

The Chancellor’s visit to NorSea Group followed on from a visit to Maersk where he welcomed news that $4.6 million is to be invested in developing the Culzean gas field by Maersk and its business partners. The work will safeguard 6,000 UK jobs and create more than 400 new ones.

Robertson said  “The industry as we all acknowledge has gone through a difficult time lately however this announcement, along with other recent announcements about investment in the North Sea, means the industry can look forward with a sense of optimism which is something we all welcome.”

Osbourne said: “The announcement of a $4.6 billion investment in the Culzean oil field sends a clear signal that the North Sea is open for business. The UK’s Oil & Gas sector already supports hundreds of thousands of jobs and this new investment, which was only possible because of government support, will help protect those jobs and create many more.

“It was great to meet with staff at NorSea Group in Aberdeen to hear about the fantastic work they are doing to support companies like Maersk drive the sector forward.”
