Clyde Marine Training, the Glasgow based merchant navy training specialist, have reported that 2013 was a record year for applicants. There was a 43% increase during 2013 compared the previous 12 months.

Clyde Marine Training specializes in training Merchant Navy Cadets and report they saw increases across the three main disciplines of Deck Officer, Electro-Technical and Engineering. Working closely with nautical colleges across the U.K. and Ireland Clyde Marine Training claims to be the largest provider of dedicated maritime training in the country, with Merchant Navy Cadets based in Shetland in the North all the way down to Plymouth.

Announcing the figures, Managing Director Colin McMurray commented, “We’re delighted to see such a large increase year on year. We’ve invested heavily in recent years to make it easier for people to apply online and we’re thrilled to see this paying dividends. What’s also really pleasing is that our pass rate has been increased over the past year in light of increased traffic to the website and this has resulted in an increased standard of applicant. It’s great to see so many young people are considering a career at sea.”
