Arken Intermodal Terminal Sees Increased Cargo Handling Capacity

Friday, October 30, 2026

By rebuilding and streamlining the layout of the railway tracks at Arken Intermodal Terminal, new space for cargo handling has been created, resulting in increased yard capacity.

Arken Intermodal Terminal is one of Sweden’s largest intermodal terminals and an important hub for transfers between rail, road and sea. Over time, cargo volumes in the area have increased, and capacity for certain flows has approached its limit. Yard space in particular has been a limiting factor.

By rebuilding one of the through tracks at the terminal, approximately 4,000 square meters of highly sought-after yard space for trailers and other units has been freed up at Arken Intermodal Terminal.

Arken Intermodal Terminal:

Area: Approximately 65,000 square meters.
Operator: The terminal has been operated by Gothenburg RoRo Terminal since 2022 and has since been an integrated part of the terminal’s total operations.
Tracks: Seven electrified railway tracks with a total track length of 3,360 meters.
Location: Located adjacent to the port’s container and ro-ro terminals for transfers between rail, vessel and truck.
Capacity: The terminal has the capacity to handle approximately 100,000 units/trailers per year.
