Weinberg Elected Chairman of Canaveral Port Authority
During the November Commission meeting, Board members unanimously selected Tom Weinberg to serve as Chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority after newly elected Micah Loyd and Bob Harvey formally were sworn in to begin their terms. Elected in 2010 and reelected in 2014, Chairman Weinberg is a fourth-generation Brevardian elected from District 5. His career included positions as Chief of Staff for former U.S. Senator Mel Martinez and Deputy County Administrator for Orange County, Fla. Currently, he is a Director of Fidelity Bank of Florida headquartered in Merritt Island.

High Tech Towboat: LNG-Powered Design Gets ABS Approval in Principle
Conrad Shipyard and The Shearer Group, Inc. (TSGI) said that its design of a 4,200 horsepower LNG-powered towboat received “Approval in Principle” (AIP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The boat is based on TSGI’s azimuth drive (Z-drive) towboat design that debuted in 2008 as the FRANK T. STEGBAUER. To date, eight of these towboats have been built for Southern Towing Company, which is a pioneer in the use of z-drives for brown water operations. The boats have shown significant fuel savings relative to conventional towboats.

Conrad Industries New Contract Award
Conrad Industries, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: CNRD.PK) announced that it has been awarded a contract for the construction of a shallow draft dredge with a value of $13.1m. The United States Army Corps of Engineers awarded the contract to Conrad for the design and construction of a 156-ft self-propelled, shallow draft, split hull hopper dredge for the Wilmington District. The dredge will operate year round in coastal inlets from Florida to Maine. The vessel will be built at our shipyard in Morgan City, La.
Geo Shipyard Delivers to USACE
The Redlinger and the Elton, both 60-ft Hysucraft (hydrofoil supported catamarans), are survey vessel sister ships designed and built for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. They are serving the Portland Oregon district. Redlingers mission is in Portland along the Columbia River. Eltons mission is in Astoria and out to the Columbia Bar. The vessels have a top speed of 35knots with a cruising speed of 30 knots at 80% power. They can survey at up to 15 knots but typically their work is done at 10 knots. The vessels are designed by Viking Fast Craft Solutions, LLC., Staunton Ill.
