Ruhl Named CEO of Algoma

Ken Bloch Sørensen has stepped down as president and  CEO of Canadian shipowner Algoma Central Corporation after leading the company for four years. Gregg A. Ruhl, the current Chief Operating Officer, has been named President and Chief Executive Officer and will assume that role immediately.Soerensen is said to want to spend more time with his family in Europe. He joined Algoma in April 2015 and was charged with redefining the strategic focus of the Company to include growth markets beyond North America.

Ardmore Shipping Appoints Curtis McWilliams as Chairman

The US-based chemical tanker company  Ardmore Shipping Corporation announced that Reginald L. Jones is stepping down as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company effective December 31, 2018. Curtis McWilliams has been appointed as Chairman of the Board effective January 1, 2019, said a stock exchange announcement from the company.Jones will remain as a director until the Company's annual general meeting in 2019, when he does not intend to stand for re-election. Port Oakland Opens Cold Storage Facility

Lineage Logistics  and Dreisbach Enterprises announced the official opening of Lineage Cool Port Oakland, the world’s latest next-generation cold storage and logistics facility.Set on 25 acres at the Port of Oakland’s waterfront, Cool Port will serve as the newest hub for temperature-controlled cargo transitioning through Northern California.Cool Port is a collaboration between warehousing and logistics industry leaders Lineage and Dreisbach, with additional funding and support from the Port of Oakland and the State of California.

Bahri Highlights Growing US Presence

DeNike Presented with Connie Award

Edward Anthony DeNike, president of SSA Containers, a division of Carrix, received the 2018 Connie Award presented by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) in Long Beach, Calif., on Tuesday. Bahri Adds New VLCC Khurais

National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) has taken delivery of Khurais, a very large crude carrier (VLCC), from Korean Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI). Industry leader adds fourth VLCC this year, bringing its total number of vessels to 92,further enhancing its market-leading capabilities in crude oil transportation. The new addition is the fourth of five VLCCs to be received this year from South Korea-based Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), the world’s largest shipbuilding company.

King Abdullah Port 8th Fastest Growing Port in the World

King Abdullah Port landed the eighth spot among the world’s fastest growing ports for 2017, according to Alphaliner, the global leader in analyzing maritime transport data, port capabilities and the future of vessels and shipping route development. The new ranking comes after King Abdullah Port had previously announced a 21% increase in its annual throughput in 2017, making it the second largest port in the Kingdom in terms of container handling. In a related context, King Abdullah Port moved up to 87th place among the world’s 100 biggest container ports for 2017, after ranking 98th in 2016.

In 1951, under the leadership of Capt. Fred’s son, Morton S. Bouchard Sr., (A.K.A. “Buster” Bouchard), the company builds three 20,000 barrel oil barges and three accompanying tugboats, which ran the New York State Barge Canal. The construction of these vessels would then, in the years that followed, lead to Buster’s position as a prominent figure within the oil transportation industry. Bahri Adds VLCC 'Lawhah' to its Fleet

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) received a very large crude carrier (VLCC) named “Lawhah” on Thursday, the company said. "Continuing its strong start to 2018, Bahri accepted the delivery of ‘Lawhah to further cement its market-dominant position in crude oil transportation," said a press release. The vessel, which lifts the total number of the company’s multipurpose fleet to 90, is the second of five VLCCs to be received this year from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), the world’s largest shipbuilding company based in South Korea.

CMA CGM Unveils Startup Incubator Ze Box

French container shipping giant CMA CGM has set up a new global startup incubator to drive its digital strategy. Based in Marseilles, France, the incubator Ze Box is set to house a dozen of startups from around the world, starting in June this year. Located in Le Castel building, it will cover a surface of 800m² and will house, starting June 2018, a dozen of startups coming from all around the world to develop their potential. A call for applications will be launched shortly. The creation of Ze Box is part of CMA CGM’s strategy to make digitalization one of the pillars of its development.

New Digital Marketplace for Supply Chain Management

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Weathernews Inc. have joined forces to create a new digital marketplace for the maritime industry, called maruFreight. maruFreight operations will benefit from the financial support and expertise of Mitsui, one of the largest trading and investment companies in the world, and Weathernews, the largest weather routing company in the world. Based in Stamford, Connecticut, maruFreight will provide ship and cargo owners with an efficient, cost-effective platform for matching cargoes with suitable ships.

WFW Advises BPM on Navigazione Refinancing

International law firm Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) advised Banca Popolare di Milano S.p.A. (BPM) regarding a US$28.8m loan facility granted to L.G.R. di Navigazione and secured by, inter alia, mortgages over two medium range ice class tankers, the “Cenito” and “Posillipo”. Founded in 1865 by future Italian Prime Minister Luigi Luzzatti, BPM was Italy’s second co-operative bank. It merged with Banco Populare on 1 January 2017, to form Banco BPM, Italy’s third largest retail and corporate banking conglomerate. Naples-headquartered L.G.R.
