Two Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Program students have been awarded scholarships by Crowley Maritime Corporation. Molly Tucker and Colby Weik were each chosen for their academic excellence, high morale and community involvement. Crowley Acquires Three SeaRiver Tankers
Crowley Alaska Tankers, LLC, has completed its acquisition of three tankers from SeaRiver Maritime Inc. and is now chartering the vessels back to SeaRiver under varying multi-year terms.The tankers Liberty Bay and Eagle Bay, now under Crowley ownership and operation and renamed Washington and California respectively, each have a capacity of 760,000 barrels and transport crude from Alaska to West Coast refineries. The tanker SR American Progress, renamed Oregon, has a capacity of 342,000 barrels and transports refined petroleum between the U.S.
Crowley Rolls Out First Freight Under $2.3 Billion DFTS Contract
Crowley Logistics reports that it has successfully executed the first cargo move under its new $2.3 billion Defense Freight Transportation Services (DFTS) contract, one of the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) largest transportation services contracts. The military cargo was transported by truck Monday from the U.S. Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania, which provides logistics support for the communications sector to defense personnel with services such as fabrication and manufacturing, overhaul and repair, engineering design and development, systems integration, and global field support.

VT Halter Marine has launched the second of Crowley Maritime Corp.’s new Commitment Class ships, Taíno, one of the world’s first combination container/roll on-roll off (ConRo) vessels powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Taíno will now proceed through the final topside construction and testing phase at the shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., before beginning service in the U.S. Jones Act trade in 2018. She will join sister ship, El Coquí, which was launched earlier this year and is now in final testing prior to entering service in early 2018.

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s newest combination container/Roll on-Roll off (ConRo) ship has been launched at the VT Halter Marine shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. for the Crowley’s service between Jacksonville, Fla., and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Named El Coquí after a beloved frog native to Puerto Rico, the ConRo is one of the world’s first to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Crowley Logistics Inc., a division of Crowley Maritime Corp., has secured a multi-year contract from the U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM), an agency of the Department of Defense (DOD), to provide transportation and related services supporting Department of Defense activities in the U.S. and Canada. The Department of Defense Freight Transportation Services (DFTS) contract is one of the largest logistics contracts awarded by the U.S. government. The period of performance is two base years followed by five option years for a total value of approximately $2.3 billion.
