Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems Reshuffles Top Deck

The Industrial Solutions business area is in a process of realignment under its “planets” transformation program. The aim is to focus all business units as well as Marine Systems even more firmly on customers, markets and international service business. In addition Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jens Michael Wegmann plans to further strengthen growth and efficiency at Industrial Solutions and drive forward culture change. To this end the business area’s organizational and management structures were analyzed in depth and the overall transformation program “planets” adopted.

Vivek Bhatia New CEO of Thyssenkrupp AsiaPac

Vivek Bhatia (38) will become the new CEO of thyssenkrupp Asia Pacific effective October 1, 2016. He succeeds Dr. Stefan Schmitt (40), who will move to thyssenkrupp AG as Head of Human Resources Strategy effective October 1. Vivek Bhatia has been Head of Strategy, Markets and Development at the Regional Headquarters in Singapore since May 2014, prior to which, as part of the Boston Consulting Group for several years, he advised industrial businesses on their strategy and operations, in markets across the world and as part of Engineers India Ltd.

Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems Awarded Service Order in Peru

Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, a leading global system supplier for submarines and surface vessels, has received a service order worth around €40 million from the Peruvian naval shipyard SIMA. A key component of the order is the provision of consulting during the planning and realization of extensive modernization work on four HDW 209/1200 class submarines over a period of seven years. Among other things thyssenkrupp Marine Systems will perform engineering and technical services such as cutting and welding on the submarines and will make specialists available to provide local support.

France's DCNS Wins $40 bln Australian Submarine Contract

France's state-owned naval contractor DCNS Group has won a A$50bn ($40 billion) contract to build 12 submarines for the Australian Navy, beating bids from Japan and Germany. Malcolm Turnbull, Australia’s prime minister, announced that DCNS awarded tender over Germany and Japan to build fleet of Barracuda-class submarines in South Australia. The decision to build a new fleet of submarines in partnership with DCNS represented “a momentous national endeavour,” he said. The Shortfin Barracuda submarines will be built in Adelaide using Australian steel, creating 2,800 jobs, he said.

Norway Shortlists DCNS, ThyssenKrupp for New Subs

Norway's Defence Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide of the Conservative Party made it clear that there would be no submarine deal with Sweden, according to the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang. Instead, Norwegian defense officials have narrowed down their search to French and German maritime defense firms to replace Norway's Ula-class attack submarine fleet, says UPI report. French firm Direction des Constructions Navels Services, or DCNS, and German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems "are the strongest candidates if Norway decides to procure new submarines…

Germany Hardsell Submarine Deal With Australia

The German company competing for Australia's $50 billion submarine contract is ramping up its pitches and lobbying became more intense. Germany is positioning itself as the "safe option" to build Australia's new submarine fleet, arguing it avoids upsetting China. The German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) linked its bid to strategic tensions in the South China Sea. Germany Out of Australian Submarine Tender

As a bid from Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) loses ground over technical concerns, the competition for a A$50 billion ($34.55 billion) contract to build Australia’s next submarine fleet is narrowing to a race between Japan and France, reports Reuters. Japan's Chase for Australian Subs Deal

Japan has confirmed it is ready to build Australia’s submarines entirely at local shipyards, after stumbling in its effort to win the A$50 billion ($34.76 billion) contract, reports Reuters. According to Masaaki Ishikawa, director general for Acquisition Reform at the Ministry of Defense, Tokyo was willing to train hundreds of Australian engineers in Japan's submarine-manufacturing hub of Kobe as well as in Australia as part of its offer for one of the world's biggest defence contracts.

India Shortlists 5 Shipyards for $10.1 Bln Submarines Project

India's top government committee has selected five Indian shipyards to compete for an Rs 64,000-crore ($10.1 Bln) project to build high-tech submarines for the navy. The Indian Navy will soon invite tenders for building six conventional submarines after a high-level committee of the Defence Ministry submitted its report identifying shipyards capable of executing the project. “The Committee has visited all the shipyards in the country and has submitted its report recently. It is under consideration of the Defence Ministry,” defence sources said.

Germany Looking to Dock Submarine Deal with India

The German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen is visiting India lobbying for the purchase of German Stealth Submarines and European military hardware, say local media. Sources said that Ursula  talked of Eurofighter and [HDW] submarines in her discussions with Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. India reportedly asked Germany what all it could offer if a direct deal was struck between the two countries on next-generation submarines. The move comes after India recently announced to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets from France.

Star Capital: New Owner of the civilian Blohm + Voss

With the deal officially closed on January 31, 2012, the sale of the civilian Blohm + Voss companies – Blohm + Voss Industries, Blohm + Voss Repair and Blohm + Voss Shipyards (plus their subsidiaries) – to the UK investment company Star Capital Partners (SCP) is now complete. The purchase agreement between ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG and SCP for the acquisition of these companies was finalized on December 11, 2011. TKMS Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke Last Newbuild

On December 11, the last newbuilding of a series of 3,400 TEU container ships entered the waters at the Emden-based TKMS Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke – a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. This technical launch took place nine months after the laying down of the first double-bottom section. GE Supplies MTU with LM2500 Gas Turbine

GE Marine reported that it will supply MTU, Friedrichshafen, Germany, with one LM2500 gas turbine to power the German Navy’s F125 frigate. MTU is a GE Marine System Supplier. The Baden-Wurttemberg class frigate will use a combined diesel electric and gas turbine (CODLAG) system featuring one LM2500 gas turbine and four MTU 20V 4000 M53B diesel engines and generators. The generators will produce a total of 12,060 kilowatts/16,400 horsepower for the ship’s on-board power supply system, and/or provide diesel-electric propulsion power for cruising speeds of up to 20 knots.

Atlas Elektronik Equips Korean Submarines

Atlas Elektronik has been awarded the largest single order in its company history. Bremen’s specialist for naval electronics will equip six submarines for Korea with combat systems of the type ISUS 90-61. The corresponding contract was signed with Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW), which belongs to ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG. HDW will deliver six material packages to Korea for the construction of Class 214 submarines. The six ISUS systems from Atlas Elektronik form an important part of this order. In addition, the contract provides for extensive teamwork with the Korean industry.
