Offshore vessel operator Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO) has informed that seven of its crew members of the Pacific Warden, abducted in a pirate attack offshore Equatorial Guinea in November, have now been released.According to a press release, after 31 days in captivity, the crew were met by senior representatives from SPO. Global Experts Gather for Ship Recycling Seminar
Around 300 people gathered in Tokyo on May 12 to attend a ship recycling seminar held by leading classification society ClassNK. In addition to ClassNK representatives, top industry experts from Asia and Europe discussed the current challenges of ship recycling and what the industry can do to support safe and environmentally sound recycling practices. Altus Logistics Installs Solar Panels System at its Warehouse
Altus Logistics, a subsidiary company of Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO), has successfully installed its first-ever solar panel system at its warehouse in Loyang, Singapore. This significant installation is designed to generate 152,517kWh of electricity each year which is equivalent to powering 18 average three-bedroom apartments for one entire year. It will also bring about an estimated annual savings of USD$39,000 on electrical bills for Altus Logistics and the monthly electrical bill is anticipated to be reduced by 45.1%.

Eight Azipod C compact propulsion systems installed on 'Pacific Orca' and 'Pacific Osprey', the world’s largest wind farm installation vessels (WIV). The Azipod systems were delivered to the Samsung Shipyard in Korea from ABB’s new Azipod factory in Shanghai, China, established in 2011 to build the low power Azipod units. Australia LNG Bunkering Project Kicks Off
Det Norske Veritas (DNV) & nine key members of the Australian maritime, port and energy sectors have established the four-month study. The Joint Industry Project (JIP) is to facilitate the adoption of LNG fuelled vessels in Australian waters. The use of LNG as marine fuel eliminates SOx and particulate matter emissions, nets a 15% reduction in GHG emissions and diminishes that of NOx by 85-90%, which addresses both local and global pollution issues. Drydocks World Singapore Launches AHTS
Drydocks World launches an Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS) built at its Singapore facility in Tuas basin for Swire Pacific Offshore. The ABS-classed vessel has a bollard pull of over 200 tonnes, and is powered by four engines combined with an azimuth thruster and four tunnel thrusters. Equipment includes a Main Towing Winch, CHDs and secondary winches with an Anchor Recovery Frame for meeting Anchor handling requirements. The vessel was designed by ‘Havyard Design AS’ and can accommodate 37 people.

World's Largest Wind Farm Installation Vessel Delivered
Samsung Heavy Industries won an order to build Pacific Orca in July 2010. Pacific Orca is 161m long, 49m wide and 10.4m high, and as the world’s largest wind farm installation vessel, it is capable of transporting and installing 12 units of 3.6MW. It also allows installation of wind farms to a depth of 60m, which is the deepest in the world, as well as the installation of ultra-large wind farms with a capacity of 10MW or higher, which are being developed in the industry to meet the demand for larger wind farms.
ST Engineering Wins $60m Shipbuilding Contracts
Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) reports that its marine arm, ST Marine, has won two shipbuilding contracts worth about $60m from Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO), a wholly owned subsidiary of Swire Pacific Limited. These contracts to build and outfit two Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels, measuring 92m by 22m, are in addition to the existing shipbuilding contract with SPO, announced in June 2011 for four AHTS vessels. For these contracts, SPO will supply a larger proportion of the major equipment for ST Marine’s integration and installation.
