Sonardyne Appoints Global Business Manager for Oceanography

Subsea technology company Sonardyne International Ltd. UK, has appointed of Geraint West as its new Global Business Manager for Oceanography. Geraint joins Sonardyne with immediate effect and brings with him extensive experience gained over 32 years with the Royal Navy, Fugro and most recently, the National Oceanography Center (NOC). West’s early career as a hydrographic surveyor included a posting to the U.S. Naval Oceanography Office, and culminated as Charge Surveyor in the ice patrol ship, HMS Endurance. He then moved to Fugro as Project Manager for the U.S.

Technip completes 21 subsea jumper metrology operations using Sonardyne International's Lodestar GyroCompatts & saves 8 days working time. Using the latest Wideband Long BaseLine (LBL) acoustic positioning hardware by optimising its technique, Technip was able to complete each metrology operation in an average of 13 hours, with one such operation conducted in only 8 hours. Subsea metrology requires accurate, precise and robust acoustic measurements so that a spool or jumper can be successfully fabricated and installed.

Sonardyne Security Solution Deployed in Middle East

Sonardyne Sentinel deployed to protect high security Middle-Eastern facility. Maritime security company, Sonardyne International Ltd, has successfully completed the installation of an integrated intruder detection system for an undisclosed strategic waterside installation in the Middle East. The previously unannounced contract was awarded to Sonardyne in late 2011 and included the deployment of a network of the company’s Sentinel underwater sonars, seabed mounting systems, armoured fibre optic cabling, onshore equipment shelters and a centralised command and control system.

A Sonardyne Wideband Mini-Transponder was installed on the Holland 1 ROV and also on its tether management system.

Sonardyne helps major scientific discovery on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Sonardyne International’s Ranger 2 USBL (Ultra-Short BaseLine) acoustic positioning technology has played a crucial role in a scientific mission to discover a new eco system on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. The Irish led VENTuRE expedition used the Ranger 2 equipment to track the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Holland 1 over three kilometres below the sea surface as it searched for and filmed evidence of the newly named Moytirra Vent Field. The mission to find and study the deep sea vent field on the mid Atlantic Ridge was undertaken from the Irish research vessel, RV Celtic Explorer.
