Straightpoint Load Shackles Monitor Weight of Flying Ship

A series of 12t and 25t capacity wireless Straightpoint (SP) load shackles are monitoring loads on wire ropes supporting a 2t steel ship, suspended above the city of Linz in Austria, to symbolize the water-themed Höhenrausch cultural project, which runs from May to October this year.Six 12t capacity and six 25t capacity load shackles were supplied by SP distributor Pfeifer, which partnered with a local engineering company to create the spectacle atop a parking area in the country’s culture-centric region.

Digitization without integration in the world of global shipping is a sure recipe for failure. While most shipping companies would say that they have embraced the digital world, there are differing degrees of digitization. Fuel Consumption, Emissions Monitoring Software Updated

As part of the ongoing Blue Star Delos Renewable Energy Innovation Project, Eco Marine Power (EMP) stated that the Aquarius Management & Automation System (MAS) installed on Blue Star Delos has been updated with new fuel oil consumption (FOC) and emissions monitoring software. This updated software combined with the Aquarius MAS hardware allows for fuel consumption data from all flow meters on the ship to be displayed and logged in real-time. In addition CO2, NOx and SOx emissions are calculated based on the fuel type being used.

Virtual Crane Helps Liverpool Prep for Mega Ships

In anticipation of the arrival of five of the world’s largest cranes at the Port of Liverpool this autumn, Peel Ports has introduced an on-site virtual training simulator designed to ensure all operators are ready to maneuver the giant structures from the first day of installation. Peel Ports has been working with automation leader ABB to produce a customized, high-tech training simulator tailored to interactively test the abilities and skills of drivers by presenting them with realistic, operating scenarios.

Milestone for DNV Navigator

DNV Navigator certificate no. 2000 has now been installed on the HS Chopin. The event took place while the 3,500 TEU container vessel visited the port of Hamburg today. Navigator is a software package that simplifies port clearance procedures and ensures that the crew have the information needed for any port in plenty of time before the ship arrives at it. The system has been recognised by the industry as the tool that offers the most comprehensive and all-in-one database, with worldwide port information, regulations, procedures and port clearance forms.

BV Launches New Rules for Yachts, Megayachts

Bureau Veritas is launching a fully updated set of classification rules for yachts and megayachts. The Rules cover design approval, material and equipment certification and construction surveillance at the yard for single yacht building or for production in large series following an alternative survey scheme. Motor and sailing yachts of mono or multi hull type, built in steel, aluminium alloys or composite materials are covered. A major addition to the new Rules is a set of standards applicable to very large charter yachts and yachts with over 12 passengers.

Vestfold University College (HiVe) and MARIS have entered a co-operation agreement covering MARIS ECDIS900 product specific training. The co-operation will see HiVe offering tailor made, product specific hands-on training for the MARIS ECDIS, covering electronic charts and updates. The agreement will establish closer co-operation on research. HiVe will run product specific training courses on state of the art equipment, deploying its extensive in-house Maritime competence. HiVe offers a full range of research and development capability.
