On February 8, 2019, the Maritime Connectivity Platform Consortium (MCC) was established with a signature ceremony during the conference ‘e-navigation underway international 2019’.The Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP) is an open source technology a digital maritime domain. It brings common internet standards to maritime navigation and transportation systems.MCP enables infrastructures for efficient, secure, reliable and seamless electronic information exchange among maritime stakeholders using available communication systems.

North Carolina Ports Hires Chief Information Officer

North Carolina Ports announced it has hired Bill Corcoran as Chief Information Officer to grow the Authority’s Information Technology department and Business Process area.Corcoran enters his new role as CIO with nearly 30 years of experience in both the IT and maritime industries. Before joining the North Carolina Ports team, Corcoran served as the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Service Management and Vice President of Business Process and Information Technology with Mitsui OSK Lines.

EASTMED to Add VSAT on 20 Tankers and Bulkers

Greece-based Eastern Mediterranean Maritime Limited (EASTMED), a shipping operator servicing the energy, industrial and agricultural sectors, has chosen to install Marlink’s global VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) communication solution with L-band back-up on 20 tankers and bulkers. EASTMED aims to achieve greater operational efficiency to support its clients with cost efficient transportation in a safe environment. The VSAT solution will be completed with the full SkyFile suite to provide EASTMED crew with high-level Internet access and cost-effective communication.

Imtech Appoints Campbell to Lead Imtech Marine USA

Imtech Marine has appointed Fergus Campbell as the new Director of Imtech Marine USA. Fergus has worked for the Imtech Martine company previously (Radio Holland USA) from 2000 to 2010 as respectively Branch Manager Florida, National Service Manager and National Sales manager. Before Radio Holland, Fergus worked amongst others at Consilium Marine as sales and service manager and at Caledonian MacBrayne as superintendent. In 2010, he pursued his career as General Manager at C-MAR America Inc. in Houston, a leading global marine offshore and DP services provider.

Airbus Updates XChange Communications Platform

Airbus Defence and Space has launched XChange v3, the latest evolution of its XChange communications platform, which is set to further improve the flow of operational data between ship and shore through sophisticated voice and connectivity service management. XChange is an all-in-one solution to manage communications services in an easy and intuitive way. It gives more control with less operational overhead while on board administrative tasks can also be out-sourced to onshore offices.

Maersk’s SeaLand Sets Leadership Team

SeaLand, the newly founded intra-Americas regional carrier of the Maersk Group, announced today the appointment of its executive team which the company sais will fulfill its mission of delivering greater service stability and commitment, as well as a higher level of customer-focused service tailored to the customer’s needs. The new appointees are Alfredo Di Palma, Maria Batista, Shane Sawyer, Thiago Covre and Timothy Child, who will all be on board within the next two-three months, joining SeaLand CEO Craig Mygatt.

Transpacific Trade Organizational Changes

MOL has announced the following organizational changes which will take effect in August 2013. These changes will further build the MOL organization as one that customers and employees can continue to count on. Calvin Duffaut, assistant vice president, yield management and corporate communications for MOL (America) Inc. has been promoted to vice president, yield management of MOL Liner and will relocate to Hong Kong. DNV Appoints New U.K. Head

DNV appointed Frank Ketelaars as its Head of U.K. Advisory Services to oversee a further growth in the oil and gas sector, drawing on a diverse and experienced pool of consultants. Mr. Ketelaars will have overall responsibility for DNV’s advisory units in London, Manchester and Aberdeen, and will also be responsible for enhanced collaboration with European colleagues based in Paris, Milan, Rotterdam and Bilthoven. Mr. Ketelaars started his professional career in Shell International in 1989.

Seaspan Selects IFS Applications to Support $8B Navy Deal

IFS North America said that Seaspan has selected IFS Applications as its Shipbuilding materials requirements planning (MRP) solution. IFS Applications was chosen because it provides a powerful project-based solution (PBS) with the ability to control cost and schedule in real-time, enhancing Seaspan’s ability to efficiently meet customer requirements. This capability will help Seaspan deliver on the recently awarded $8 billion Federal Government shipbuilding program to build non-combat vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy.

Bureau Veritas Certifies Maryville Manila

International classification society Bureau Veritas has certified Philippines-based manning agency Maryville Manila Inc for compliance to the Maritime Labor Convention MLC2006 on a voluntary basis.
