BP, Premier Oil in $625M North Sea Deal

Energy giant BP has agreed a $625m deal to sell a package of North Sea assets. Premier Oil will take over the Andrew platform and BP's controlling stake in five surrounding fields, as well as its minority stake in the Shell-operated Shearwater field.BP operates the Andrew assets – comprising the Andrew platform, the Andrew (62.75%), Arundel (100%), Cyrus (100%), Farragon (50%) and Kinnoull (77.06%) fields and associated subsea infrastructure. Maritime Cook Islands (MCI) has appointed Angelos Chatzigeorgiou to succeed Glenn Armstrong as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective from July 1, 2019.Glenn, who has led the registry since 2006, has stepped down and will join the registry’s Board of Directors.Angelos joins MCI from Hellenic Silk Company, and previously held senior management roles at Seagull S.A. international Freight Forwarders Group and Cardiff Marine, a shipping and marine transportation services provider.

Sinochem, Seagull Enter Training Collaboration

Sinochem Shipping Co.Ltd. has signed a long-term agreement with Seagull Maritime to deliver earning on board its entire fleet of chemical tankers. Simulation Complex for Paraguay Waterway Training

The Transas navigational simulator Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 was installed at the Center for Maritime and River Shipowners (CAFyM) in Asuncion for training crews in tugs operations in the Parana-Paraguay Waterway. The project was carried out in conjunction with VTG S.R.L., the Transas' local representative, which is covering commercial and technical needs of the Paraguayan market for all Transas products. The NTPRO version 5.35 installed at the CAFyM center is an excellent training solution due to its new capabilities for operation with different types of boats and barges in river waters.

Seagull's Software Tool for Benchmarking Seafarers Knowledge

Seagull Maritime has launched an advanced software tool able to benchmark seafarer knowledge levels, allowing shipowners and operators to compare their crew and potential recruits with industry peers. The new tool will provide shipping companies with online access to data that can help them take objective decisions on recruitment sources and identify areas where further training is required. Benchmarking establishes the standards specific industries find acceptable, in terms of products, service levels or competitive practices, then finds ways to meet or improve upon these standards.

Seagull Maritime E-learning Additions Meet Safety Imperatives

Safety issues uppermost in regulatory thinking dominate second quarter training package releases from Seagull Maritime, with the E-learning specialist focusing on frontline hazards faced by modern seafarers. New computer-based training (CBT) modules to join the Seagull Maritime portfolio include two courses focusing on enclosed spaces - one of the most hazardous areas for shipboard work. Gas measurement, a safe atmosphere (CBT0425) is the first of two modules concerning gas measurement in enclosed spaces and cargo tanks and is aimed primarily at operational level crew.

Container Industry Competence Standard Launched

Seagull Maritime AS has launched the Container Industry Competence Standard (CICS), an assessment and training system covering container vessel operations. The program aims to bring new consistency to competency on-board containerships, following a similar breakthrough from Seagull in the dry bulk sector last year, and earlier competence management system developments for the tanker industry. CICS has drawn on cooperation with Rickmers Shipmanagement GmbH, which offered key insights into cargo handling competencies specific to container vessel operations.

Seagull Secures Panama Flag Approval

Seagull Maritime said it has secured training center approval from the Panama Maritime Authority, marking the first time that an overseas company has done so following the PMA’s 2014 change of leadership. The approval process included a two-day inspection of Seagull Maritime’s Horten, Norway facilities by three PMA staff. “We are the first training center in the world to be audited and approved by the new administration of PMA outside of Panama, as part of an exhaustive review by the Flag State demanding the attention of six Seagull Maritime staff…

California Fines 4 Shipping Firms

The California Air Resources Board has fined four shipping companies a combined $146,719 for failing to switch from dirty diesel “bunker” fuel to cleaner, low-sulfur marine distillate fuel upon entering Regulated California Waters – within 24 nautical miles of the California coast. “State anti-pollution laws require shippers to do their part to protect air quality,” said ARB Enforcement Chief Jim Ryden. “Shippers who comply are helping to protect the health of those who live, work, and go to schools near ports and shipping lanes.
