Cruise Season Kick-off in the Port of Kiel

The call by the cruise vessel “AIDAcara” on Sunday, April 7th, marks the beginning of Kiel’s cruise season 2019. Dr Dirk Claus, Managing Director at PORT OF KIEL (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG): “The upcoming cruise season will be very exciting and we will welcome a lot of new ships to Kiel. The second and new terminal building at the Ostseekai is presently under construction and we are working on the implementation of the onshore power project.” The port is currently investing about 30 million Euros in the cruise sector. Half of this amount is dedicated to sustainability measures.

Port of Kiel: More than 2.2 mln Passengers This Year

The economic importance of nautical tourism for Schleswig-Holstein is continuing to increase. More than 2.2 million passengers are expected in the port of Kiel alone this year, forecasting record numbers like 600,000 cruise passengers and 1.6 million ferry travelers.Last year, passengers generated a turnover of about 68 million Euros in Kiel. The consumer spending of the port’s ferry passengers amounts to more than 53 million Euros. These are complemented by another 15 million Euros spent by cruise passengers and the crews.

Ulstein Bags SunStone Ship Order

Norwegian ship designer Ulstein has received a contract to design the fourth expedition cruise vessel for Miami-based SunStone Ships, in their Infinity series.The vessel, which will be constructed at the China Merchants Heavy Industries (CMHI)  yard in China, is a CX103 design featuring the X-BOW and designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions.The SunStone ship design contracts were the first cruise contracts for Ulstein, a ship design company with long experience from the offshore industry.

Maersk Offers Street Turn Services in the US, Canada

Avantida, an E2Open company, has announced that Maersk, has started to offer street turn services on their platform in the United States and Canada. This represents Avantida’s first step into the US and Canadian markets.Empty container triangulation, or the interchange of an intermodal container outside of a marine terminal or yard (street turns), is a well-known activity in the US. Aker BP Hires Prosafe Vessel

Prosafe has signed a contract with Aker BP ASA for the Safe Scandinavia to provide accommodation support at the Ula platform in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The firm duration of the contract commencing mid-August 2018 is seven months with eight one-month options. Total value of the contract excluding the option periods is approximately USD 25.5 million. The option periods, if exercised, have a total value of approximately USD 36.7 million. The contract will ensure employment of the Safe Scandinavia soon after expiry of her previous contract that concluded end-June 2018.

Andersen Joins Pipetech

Pipetech strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of Frank Andersen as general manager Scandinavia. Andersen, who brings more than 10 years oil and gas experience to Pipetech, will be based at the firm’s Stavanger hub. Mercedes-Benz Försäljnings AB is establishing a base in the port area in Malmö and thereby strengthening its collaboration with CMP. The company previously rented outdoor areas from CMP, but it has now decided to move its workshop operation to Frihamnen.CMP and Mercedes-Benz Försäljnings AB concluded a service and rental agreement for 6,000 m2 of outdoor areas back in 2017. This relationship is now being enhanced as Mercedes-Benz Försäljnings AB is moving part of its workshop operation for delivery service from Fosie to CMP at Frihamnen in Malmö.

Samskip Nor Lines' Service to Call Rotterdam

Samskip subsidiary Nor Lines will include calls at Rotterdam for the first time in its weekly multipurpose liner service connecting to Western, Mid and Northern Norway, with effect from June 1st. The service is provided by Nor Lines' state of the art, LNG-fuelled vessels MV Kvitnos and MV Kvitbjorn. These flexible ships will sail in 14-day loops, connecting Rotterdam and Eemshaven with Norwegian ports from Hammerfest in the far north, and taking in calls including Sandnes/Tananger, Bergen, Trondheim, Ålesund, Bodo and Tromso.
