Intellian, Inmarsat Embark On FleetBroadband Development

Inmarsat and Intellian have signed an outline agreement that will support enhancements to Inmarsat’s FleetBroadband service for the next decade and beyond. The new agreement will see Intellian design and manufacture a new generation of FleetBroadband terminals that will support the existing I-4 network alongside the major advances coming with Inmarsat’s sixth generation satellite constellation, the first of which is scheduled for launch in 2020. The next generation terminals will be significantly lower cost and feature a host of new capabilities, including much faster throughput speeds.

Inmarsat will commemorate the untimely passing earlier this year of one of the architects of its Maritime Safety Operations network by sponsoring the first International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) H.E.R.O. Award for outstanding service to maritime search and rescue, 'The Vladimir Maksimov Award'. The sponsorship is seen as a fitting tribute to Vladimir Maksimov, Inmarsat Director of SOLAS Services, who died on 4th May 2016 after a short illness, following 25 years with Inmarsat. Falck offers LNG Safety Training for Maritime Industry

Since more ships sail on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) or transport this quite new type of gas, Falck Safety Services offers LNG safety training for the maritime industry. In 2013 Falck developed a complete new training facility for the LNG industry. LNG is a natural gas that has been converted to liquid by cooling to an extreme low temperature of -162 °C. This makes transport and storage of gas easier. In the LNG safety training Falck gives answers to questions like ‘what happens if there is a spill in water? what happens if the gas vapour ignites?

Inmarsat C Celebrates 25 Years Saving Llives at Sea

Inmarsat has marked the 25th anniversary of Inmarsat C by revealing that more than 600 distress alerts from vessels in urgent need were broadcast over the service in 2015. The disclosure demonstrates how the decision made by IMO administrations requiring all ships of more than 300 gross tons to be fitted with a Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) remains pivotal in protecting lives at sea. Inmarsat is the only safety services provider in the world approved to deliver GMDSS under the rigorous International Convention for the Safety of Life At Sea requirements.

WSS Earns Global ABS Approval for Safety Services

Wilhelmsen Ships Services (WSS) late last month obtained global approval for its safety services from ABS (American Bureau of Shipping). The approval comes after a two year process involving the entire safety services team and covers all safety services worldwide. “Along with Radio Holland, we are now the only maritime service provider in the world with global approval from ABS, and indeed, the only service provider within the safety sector. WSS Opens Marine Safety & Training Academy in Atwerp

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) opened a new FRS (fire, rescue & service) Center and Safety Training Academy in Antwerp, Belgium. “The opening of new safety service training facilities around the world will play a vital role in the growth of our total safety offer,” said. EnQuest Donates Life Saving Equipment

Northeast charities and golf clubs benefit from EnQuest’s $120,000 donations. Topaz Second Vessel for $225M BP Contract

Topaz Energy and Marine recently took delivery of the newest addition to its fleet, the Caspian Protector. The vessel will be deployed in Azerbaijan in support of a 10 year $225m BP contract won in 2008. Maritime satellite communications provider Inmarsat says it now connects leisure and fishing vessels with a specially designed broadband service. Accessing weather information and chart updates, keeping in contact with loved ones or simply checking the news are now as simple to do at sea as they are on land with the launch of Fleet One from Inmarsat Maritime. From nnow on, yacht and fishing boat owners can take full advantage of maritime broadband services previously only available to much larger vessels.
