Belfast Container Terminal Orders Kalmar's AutoRTG System

Kalmar won a tender to supply a complete AutoRTG system to Belfast Container Terminal (BCT) in Northern Ireland. The system will comprise eight automated rubber-tired gantry cranes (AutoRTGs) controlled by the Kalmar Terminal Logistic System (TLS) and new-generation remote control (RC) desks. The order was booked in Cargotec's Q4 2018 order intake, with delivery of the system scheduled to commence at the end of 2019.Belfast Container Terminal (BCT), the largest in Northern Ireland,  is owned by and located in Belfast Harbor and is operated under concession by Irish Continental Group.

Buenos Aires' Exolgan Orders Four Hybrid RTGs from Kalmar

Cargo handling solutions company Kalmar has signed an agreement with Exolgan S.A. to supply a total of four rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) with hybrid drivelines for its container terminal in Buenos Aires, Argentina."The order, which also includes the supply of a spare parts package for the machines, was booked in Cargotec's 2018 Q4 order intake with delivery scheduled to take place in late 2019," said a press release from Kalmar, part of Cargotec. Kalmar to Automatize Melbourne VICT Terminal

The provider of cargo handling solutions and services to ports, terminals, Kalmar has signed a maintenance and support agreement with International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI) covering the automated container handling solution operating at Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT).The order was booked in Cargotec's Q4 2018 order intake with the agreement coming into effect in November 2018, said a press release. Crowley Christens LNG ConRo El Coquí

Crowley Maritime Corp. on Saturday christened its Commitment Class combination container/roll on-roll off (ConRo) ship El Coquí, which is among the first of its kind to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).The Jones Act compliant vessel is the first of two built as part of Crowley’s Commitment Class project and a key new component in the company’s supply chain transformation in the U.S. mainland-Puerto Rico trade. Liebherr to Supply ERTG Cranes to Montreal

Liebherr Container Cranes have secured an order for the supply of 10 electric rubber tyre gantry cranes to Montreal Gateway Terminal Partnerships. The cranes will be delivered to both the Cast and Racine Terminals in 2019.Liebherr supplied its first crane to Cast Terminal, Montreal in 1997. Kalmar to Supply Customized RMGs at DCT Gdansk

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed an agreement with Deepwater Container Terminal (DCT) Gdansk to supply three electrically powered rail-mounted gantry cranes (RMGs) with DCT specific customization. Kalmar, part of Cargotec, and Navis, part of Kalmar Business Area within Cargotec, have been awarded the contract to supply a state-of-the-art, fully automated intermodal terminal solution for Qube's Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP) in south-western Sydney. The order, valued at approximately EUR 80 million, includes the supply of the OneTerminal solution comprising Kalmar's automated train handling, automated yard crane and automated horizontal transportation equipment and the Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS). DP World Jeddah Upgrades to Navis N4

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, announced that DP World Jeddah has upgraded from Navis SPARCS to N4 3.5 terminal operating system (TOS). The implementation of the updated TOS is a move by the terminal to leverage the latest technology to meet continuous customer service demands and address the need for increasing operational support as incoming cargo volume rises. DP World operates the South Container Terminal (SCT) at Jeddah Islamic Port, a crucial link in the world’s busiest East-West trade routes through the Red Sea and catering to a rich domestic cargo base.

ICO to Develop Additional 54 Hectares in Zeebrugge

International Car Operators has signed a concession agreement with the Port of Zeebrugge for a 54-hectare expansion of the Bastenaken car terminal. The new terminal will have a surface of 200 hectares (totaling about 300 hectares in Zeebrugge) with a key wall allowing up to 16 vessels to operate simultaneously. This expansion will also aim at connecting the existing Hanze-terminal with the Bastenaken-terminal, enabling traffic arriving at the terminal to enter via a single newly constructed gate building located adjacent to the A11 motor way.

Digitisation Helps APM Terminals Pipavav

With more than 500 trucks per day passing through the gates at APM Terminals Pipavav, even the smallest efficiency improvement quickly adds up to 100s of hours saved per day. The terminal’s latest digital solution also offers significant environmental benefits, cost savings and improved safety. APM Terminals Pipavav have developed an online version of Form 13 (gate-in permits issued by terminals) required for each import/export container. Known as e-form 13, it will save close to 3 million kilometres of road trips and their associated carbon emissions each year.

Kalmar launches FastCharge AGV

Kalmar is introducing an automated guided vehicle (AGV) solution for transporting containers between quayside and landside operations. The new Kalmar FastCharge AGV is the latest milestone in Kalmar's  20-year track record of delivering innovative fully automated container-handling solutions to terminals around the world. The Kalmar FastCharge AGV is constructed on a steel platform that can carry one or two 20-foot containers, one 40- or one 45-foot container and handle loads of up to 70 metric tons.

Managing the New Panamax Containerships

The explosive growth of international boxships is challenging not only the physical infrastructure of North American ports, but also the very nature of the existing supply chains that they impact. The recent dialogue on container shipping has been all about so-called “mega-ships;” those vessels that with larger capacity than those that are already in service at any point in time. In the container trades, as in tanker and drybulk arenas, ocean-going vessels are one link, albeit an important component, within broader supply chains.
