Wärtsilä Solutions Increase Safety in Arctic Waters

The technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted by Sovcomflot, Russia’s largest shipping company, to roll out a Wärtsilä Fleet Operations solution for Sovcomflot’s fleet of Arctic shuttle tankers.The aim is to promote sustainable development, and to increase the safety and efficiency of operations in the sensitive Arctic waters. Wärtsilä will also provide a core solution for the company’s fleet operation center. The order was booked in March 2019.The solution has been developed as a result of collaboration between Sovcomflot and Transas, a Wärtsilä company.

ClassNK Releases Mobile App for PSC Inspection

Classification society ClassNK has released the Arrival Checklist  for PSC, the preparatory checklist mobile app for PSC inspections. Arrival Checklist  for PSC digitalizes the updated contents of ClassNK’s Port State Inspections Pocket Checklist and is now available for smartphones and tablets. Arrival Checklist  for PSC allows users to access the checklist with greater ease and efficiency during preparatory checks of onboard equipment and others prior to arrival into port. The app was developed as a ship management solution to help minimize the risk of PSC detentions and deficiencies.

Shipowners and operators are reaping the benefits of the Wilhelmsen Ships Service Welding Safety Campaign, which highlights the need for safe equipment and working practices, together with quality training onboard ship. The campaign comprises inspections of onboard equipment to provide help and guidance to shipowners in complying with local and national standards and promoting crew competence.

Rolls-Royce to Design & Power Chinese OSV's

Rolls-Royce wins a £12 million order to design and equip two platform supply vessels (PSVs) to be built at Jiangsu Eastern Heavy Industries in China. Rolls-Royce UT 755 LN vessels are designed specifically for transporting solid and liquid cargo to and from offshore oil and gas platforms world wide. In addition to the design, Rolls-Royce will supply an extensive range of onboard equipment, including main engines, propulsion system, thrusters, automation and control systems, deck machinery, bulk handling systems, rudders, steering gears and shaft generators.

Rolls-Royce to Design, Power, Brazilian OSV's

Rolls-Royce wins a £24 million order to design & equip four platform supply vessels (PSVs) for Brazilian ship owner Bravante Group. The UT 775 SE PSVs are designed to carry deck cargo, pipes and diesel oil to and from offshore oil and gas platforms. They will be chartered by Petrobras. Bravante Group will build the vessels at their ship yard in Niteroi, Brazil, as they have done for previous orders.
