Ocean Rig Postpones SHI Drillship Delivery Till 2020
International offshore drilling contractor Ocean Rig UDW Inc. and South Korean yard Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) have agreed to postpone the delivery of the newbuild drillship Ocean Rig Crete to September 2020. "Our subsidiary, that is party to the shipbuilding contract for the construction of its 8th generation enhanced integrated design newbuilding drillship, the Ocean Rig Crete, reached an agreement with SHI to postpone the delivery of the Ocean Rig Crete to September 2020," said a press release from the company.
Stena Drillship First to Receive DNV GL MPD Class Notation
DNV GL has revised its classification rules for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) systems and introduced two new class notations DRILL(MPD) and DRILL(MPD READY). Stena Drilling Ltd. (SDL) is the first drilling contractor to receive the notation Drill(MPD) for their harsh environment drillship Stena Carron. Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is an adaptive drilling process that allows greater control of the annular pressure profile throughout the wellbore. This can help operators drill new wells safely and more efficiently and in some cases to drill previously undrillable wells.
Keppel Explores Sale of Jack-up Rigs to Borr Drilling
Singapore yard Keppel Corporation is considering a sale of jack-up rigs to Norwegian offshore drilling contractor Borr Drilling, reports The Business Times. The world’s biggest builder of oil rigs is seeking to offload six jack-up rigs for up to US$960 million to the Oslo-listed drilling firm headed by Tor Olav Trøim, said the report. BT also reported that Keppel Capital has already hooked up with structured finance provider Clifford Capital to potentially extend a sale-and-lease-back arrangement for at least one jack-up contracted by Grupo R.
Transocean Provides Fleet Status Report
Transocean, the world's leading offshore drilling contractor with 61 rigs in its fleet, has issued a Fleet Status Report that provides the current status of and contract information for the company's entire fleet of offshore drilling rigs. Cosco Compensates Sevan
COSCO Corp (Singapore) will refund $26.3 million, or 5 percent of the contract price, plus associated interest to Sevan Drilling by December 1, 2015. Sevan Drilling and Cosco have agreed to exercise the first six-month option to extend the deferral agreement to April 15, 2016. The final delivery instalment has been amended to $447.1 million, representing 85 percent of the $526 million contract price and can be amended further upon the expiration of the option period. The company first announced winning of the contract back in May 2011.
Noble Execs Cut Deal with SEC Ahead of Bribery Trial
Two executives from offshore drilling contractor Noble Corp have agreed to settle civil claims they participated in a bribery scheme to obtain permits for oil rigs in Nigeria, days before the case was set to go to trial. Jury selection had been scheduled for next Monday in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's case against Mark Jackson, Noble's former chief executive officer, and James Ruehlen, director of the oil and gas services company's Nigerian subsidiary. STX Offshore & Shipbuilding of Korea, one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, has purchased the first OMNIPURE Series 55 marine sanitation system from Severn Trend De Nora for use on a new drill ship. The OMNIPURE Series 55 system complies with MEPC.159(55) effluent standards and performance tests for sewage treatment plants across a variety of offshore and marine installations. The model 5556 system has a treatment capacity of 56 m3/day (14,793 gal/day). Its personnel treatment capacity is 550 people for black water and 225 for black and gray water.
