New Partners in Autonomous Shipping Alliance

Three 'influencers' in the international maritime sector have joined One Sea,  the industry alliance that brings together leading exponents of autonomous ship technology.Global satellite group Inmarsat and NYK Group research subsidiary MTI (Monohakobi Technology Institute) have joined One Sea as full members, while the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to become a One Sea associate member.One Sea members ABB, Kongsberg Maritime and Wärtsilä ran separate autonomous ship trials off the Finnish and Norwegian coasts at the end of 2018.

Naming Ceremony for New LNG Carrier

On May 14, a naming ceremony was held at the Nagasaki shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier that NYK and JERA Co. will jointly own. The ceremony was attended by Satoshi Onoda, president of JERA Co. Inc.; Tadaaki Naito, president of NYK; and a number of related parties.At the ceremony, the ship was named “Bushu Maru” by Mr. Onoda, and the ceremonial rope holding the vessel in place was cut by his wife. Cruise: Asuka II Makeover in 2020

Asuka II, operated by NYK Cruises Co. Ltd., will undergo a 45-day makeover at the Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard in Singapore from the middle of January 2020. Asuka II is the nation’s largest cruise ship flying the Japanese flag (tonnage: 50,142 GT; capacity: 872 passengers).Features to be added during the dry dock include a large open-air bath, Western-style rooms featuring traditional Japanese-style tatami-mat sleeping areas, and a reading lounge where guests can enjoy a little quite time with books, smart devices, and computers.

NYK Fixes Newbuild LNG Carrier with Edison

Japanese shipping and logistics giant Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) has signed a contract with Edison SPA, a Milan-based energy company, to charter out a newly built liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for up to 20 years, including optional extension periods.The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2022 from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. NYK Tugboat Subsidiaries Merge

Japanese shipping and logistics giant Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) announced that two of its subsidiaries that provide harbor tugboat and other related services, will merge on July 1, 2019.Yokohama, Kanagawa-based Wing Maritime Service Corporation will merge with compatriot Kaiyo Kogyo Corporation to form an unnamed entity, a press release said. Japanese shipping and logistics giant Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) has signed long-term contracts with Diamond Gas International Pte. Ltd. NYK Launches Ship-management Platform NiBiKi

MT-FAST Fuel-saving Device Installed on 500 Vessels

MT-FAST, a fuel-saving device jointly developed by NYK Group company MTI Co. Ltd. and Tsuneishi Holdings Corporation, has now been installed on over 500 vessels. NYK Names New Ship 'Pirika Moshiri Maru'

ICO to Develop Additional 54 Hectares in Zeebrugge

International Car Operators has signed a concession agreement with the Port of Zeebrugge for a 54-hectare expansion of the Bastenaken car terminal. The new terminal will have a surface of 200 hectares (totaling about 300 hectares in Zeebrugge) with a key wall allowing up to 16 vessels to operate simultaneously. This expansion will also aim at connecting the existing Hanze-terminal with the Bastenaken-terminal, enabling traffic arriving at the terminal to enter via a single newly constructed gate building located adjacent to the A11 motor way.

NYK, Oyak to Build Car Terminal in Turkey

Turkey’s Oyak Group - owner of the country’s biggest steel producer, Erdemir Group - is to invest in a car logistics terminal in Yarimca port near Istanbul  in partnership with Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line). According to a Reuters report, the investment will be $110 million. According to NYK press release, Süleyman Savaş Erdem, general manager of OYAK, and Koichi Chikaraishi, NYK representative director and senior managing corporate officer, were on hand for the signing ceremony held in Istanbul on April 5.

NYK to Build Car Logistics Terminal in Yarimca Port

At a ceremony held in Istanbul on April 5, NYK signed an agreement to jointly build and operate a finished-car logistics terminal in Yarimca port near Istanbul, Turkey. The new joint venture will be owned and operated together with OYAK Denizcilik ve Liman İşletmeleri A.Ş. (OYAK PORT), a port-management subsidiary company that is part of OYAK, a leading Turkish conglomerate.
