MOL Launches Rope Status Monitoring System

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that, in partnership with MOL Coastal Shipping, and MOL Information Systems, it will start a demonstration test of a mooring rope with a built-in sensor, along with a rope status monitoring system.The project focuses on the mooring ropes that connect vessels to piers and other port facilities, said a press release from the  international shipping company based in Tokyo, Japan.In general, the tension on mooring ropes is hardly determined in accurate, except at certain ports equipped with tension monitors.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that its group company, Mitsui O.S.K. MOL Turns 50 in Thailand

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) celebrated the 50th anniversary for the establishment of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (Thailand).On November 13, it held a party in Bangkok for customers, business partners, and others, marking the event and the centennial anniversary for the opening of liner service to and from Thailand by its predecessor, Osaka Shosen.Around 500 guests attended the event including Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Transport, and Shiro Sadoshima, Japanese Ambassador to Thailand.

MOL Launches Sunflower Kirishima

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that the newly built large-scale ferry Sunflower Kirishima operated by its group company Ferry Sunflower was launched on September 15, and with many passengers aboard, departed the Nanko Sunflower Terminal in Osaka Prefecture for the Port of Shibushi, Kagoshima Prefecture.The new Sunflower Kirishima has room for 20% more trucks compared to the old Sunflower Kirishima.With its sister ferry, the Sunflower Satsuma, which was launched on May 15…

MOL Worldwide Logistics Establishes Hong Kong HQ for MOL NVOCC Operations

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced the establishment, effective July 1, of MOL Worldwide Logistics (MWL), and that they will lead MOL Group non vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) business in Hong Kong.In a press release the company clarified that Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) does not have own transport means (vessels), but carries cargoes between ports and to the final place of delivery by using other shipping companies.MOL Executive Officer Michael P.Y. Goh was appointed CEO of MWL.

Tokyo International Container Terminal Marks 20 Million TEUs Handled

MOL Invests in PKT Logistics

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that it completed the acquisition of 14.27% shares in PKT Logistics Group, a Malaysian logistics company. MOL's stake will rise from the current 20.86% to 35.13%.PKT provides end-to-end logistics solutions comprising freight forwarding, customs brokerage, contract logistics, haulage, distribution and others, to its customers from diverse market sectors.PKT owns and operates warehouses hub in Shah Alam, Selangor, offering over 55,000m2 of warehouse space in total.

MOL Blue Ocean Environmental Bonds will be Japan's 1st Green Bonds

MOL: New Stowage System for Car Carriers

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. introduced an upgraded stowage planning system for car carriers called “MOL-CAPS”. The MOL-CAPS system generates a voyage-by-voyage stowage plan that determines where to stow specific vehicles in consideration of different factors, such as the onboard structure, the type of vehicles being transported, and calling ports. BW Offshore Gets Contract Extension for FPSO Polvo

BW Offshore has signed an agreement with Petrorio for a one-year extension for the lease and operation of the FPSO Polvo. The firm period has been extended to Q3 2019 (from Q3 2018), with options until Q3 2022. The company has also announced that BW Catcher FPSO received the First Oil Certificate following the successful completion of the 72-hour interim performance test subsequent to the introduction of hydrocarbons on 23rd December 2017. MOL CEO Optimistic on 2018

President & CEO of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Junichiro Ikeda says that his company is  strongly determined to shape the future of the industry. Looking at the shipping market, conditions were mixed across businesses, with firm conditions in dry bulkers but weaker trends in tankers, for example. A full-scale recovery is still in the making. "Amid suboptimal shipping market conditions, we expect to finish fiscal 2017 with results largely in line with our initial forecasts, as steady operational enhancements and efforts on the sales frontline come to fruition," he said.

MOL Rolls Out Total Residual Oxidants Instrument

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced commercialization of the Total Residual Oxidants (TRO) instrument "S.sensing WS," one of the major components of the Ballast Water Management System (BWMS). TRO is developed by Kurita Water Industries with the cooperation of MOL's group company MOL Engineering Co. In addition, MOL Techno-Trade will handle sales activities for the new product. BWMS are categorized as "UV type," "electrolysis type," "chemical type," and "ozone type." All except for the UV type sterilize harmful organisms in ballast water with various active substances.

MOL Research on Marine Rotary Machineries

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced plans to work with Asahi Kasei Engineering Corporation (AEC) on a project to verify predictive detection of abnormalities in marine rotary machineries using vibrating sensors.
