Inmarsat Publishes ICT Field Guide

As day-to-day operations at sea become ever more reliant on information and communication technology (ICT), mobile satellite communications company Inmarsat has published a practical guide to help ship managers build onboard networks that are resilient and reliable.The Best Practice Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Recommendations, published by the Inmarsat Research Program, offers guidance on maximizing uptime and minimising cyber-vulnerabilities of onboard networks and automated systems.

Inmarsat Unveils Fleet Data Service

Inmarsat has unveiled Fleet Data, a new Internet of Things (IoT) service, which will enable ship owners and managers to access and analyse real-time onboard data more efficiently, and as a result will help accelerate the adoption of IoT across the maritime industry.Developed in partnership with Danelec Marine, Fleet Data will record data from the onboard Voyage Data Recorder (VDR), and other vessel sensors, pre-process that data, and upload it to a central (cloud-based) database equipped with a dashboard and Application Process Interface (API).

IoT to Boost Revenues by USD 154 million: Inmarsat

Hapag-Lloyd, Inmarsat Ink Fleet Xpress Deal

Global mobile satellite communications services provider Inmarsat has signed a five-year contract with Hapag-Lloyd to migrate all ships directly managed by the shipping line to services enabled for Fleet Xpress. Hapag-Lloyd, the sixth largest container shipping operator in the world by Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) capacity, will transition all existing ships that it manages in-house from Inmarsat FleetBroadband services to Fleet Xpress. The agreement also covers five 10,500 TEU vessels as latest new builds.

IMRF Reveals Hero Long List

The International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) has revealed the long list of entries for its H.E.R.O. awards – launched in April this year. The 30 finalists range from companies, maritime search and rescue organizations and individuals involved in technological developments to those involved with design and innovation, services and training, as well as those actively engaged in saving lives in the world’s waters. Entries come from across the world including organizations and individuals as far afield as China and the United States to Bangladesh and New Zealand. The H.E.R.O.

MOL Makes Fleet-wide Migration to Fleet Xpress

26 July 2016: Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L), the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, has announced that its partner JSAT MOBILE Communications has signed an agreement with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), one of the world’s largest shipping companies, to introduce the newly-launched Fleet Xpress service across the majority of its car carrier fleet. IMSO Starts the Evaluation of Iridium

On February 4, 2014, the IMSO Director General launched an Consultancy Program inviting appropriate experts to assist in the evaluation of mobile satellite communications systems for the GMDSS. The IMO Maritime Safety Committee, at its 94th session in November 2014, agreed that IMSO should undertake the technical and operational evaluation of the Iridium mobile satellite system to assess compliance with the relevant criteria for recognition as GMDSS satellite provider, noting that IMSO would convene a Group of Experts from the abovementioned Consultancy Program.

Fleet Broadband – 30,000 Terminals Activated

This milestone was reached with the installation of a FleetBroadband 500(TM) on Olympic Future, a Greek-flagged crude oil tanker, by Inmarsat's distribution partner OTESAT-Maritel. KVH Q4 2009 Results

KVH Industries, Inc., (NASDAQ:KVHI) reported financial results for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2009. Revenue for the fourth quarter of 2009 was $26.3 million, up 24% from the quarter ended December 31, 2008. Net income for the period was $1.8 million, or $0.13 per diluted share. During the same period last year the company reported net income of $0.3 million or $0.02 per diluted share. For the year ended December 31, 2009, revenue was $89.1 million, up 8% compared to $82.4 million for the year ended December 31, 2008.
