BIMCO: VLCC Freight Rates from Gulf to China Doubles

VLCC spot freight rates between the Arabian Gulf and China rose 101% in the days between June 13, 2019 and June 20, 2019, in the aftermath of attacks on two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. UAE's Fujairah to Ban Ship Exhaust Cleaner When IMO 2020 Kicks In

Swahili Express service will be dedicated to Kenya and Tanzania markets with very fast transit times. Mombasa will be reached from Mundra in 12 days and Dar Es Salaam in 14 days. MIDAS Service Rotation Change

CMA CGM announced and amendment to the port rotation of its MIDAS service. Luanda served via Durban with Samwaf service: Luanda is reached from Mundra in 26 days, Nhava Sheva in 28 days, Jebel Ali in 31 days. Lome via Singapore with Afex service: Lome is reached from Mundra in 37 days, Nhava Sheva in 39 days and Jebel Ali in 37 days. CMA CGM Modifies its Midas and Swahili Services

CMA CGM has announced the strengthening of its current MIDAS service by cooperating with PIL under a new Vessel Sharing Agreement. Tanker Rates to Remain Under Pressure

The reduction in the new 2016 Worldscale flat rates  of Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) has led to spot rates increasing as owners look for equivalent 2015 returns, says tanker market assessments from the Baltic Exchange. Thus we are now seeing rates for long east of around WS 107.5/110 on 270,000 tonnes with rates to the US Gulf hovering in the very low WS 60s. Brokers are saying rates remain under pressure here as charterers work quietly and for those who can take either new-buildings, ex-drydock or tonnage over 15 years old a discount is achievable.

Suezmax Tanker Market Improves

Suezmax tanker owners are among the “happiest” ones when it comes to the performance of their vessels during 2014, as well as throughout this year as well says the latest weekly report from the London-based shipbroker Gibson. For most of last year the Suezmax market outperformed VLCCs, with spot earnings for West Africa-UKC (TD20) regularly above VLCC returns on the benchmark TD3 trade. Firmer Suezmax earnings were aided by rising West Africa to Europe crude trade, dramatic increases in spot fixtures out of the Middle East Gulf and a more active Caribbean market.

Suezmax Tankers Bullish

Global fixture activity for suezmax crude tankers rose in the first quarter by 5% year on year, with most of the activity coming out of West Africa. Suezmax fixtures out of the Caribbean rose by 48%, most of which headed to the US Gulf and East coast Panama. During the first quarter 2015, there was a 45% rise in suezmax fixtures from the Middle East Gulf (MEG) to West Coast India, compared to the same period last year, according to new research from New York-based marine transportation consultancy McQuilling Services.

Long-range clean tanker rates stayed firm on Monday extending a recent rally with firmer cargo demand bolstering sentiment further. Long Range 1 tankers, carrying 55,000 tonne loads from the Middle East Gulf (MEG) to Japan, reached W117.50 in the Worldscale measure, or $11,453 a day when translated into average earnings, the highest since mid September last year. Clean tanker rates on the transatlantic route edged higher on Monday helped by light bookings although the market continued to struggle with a glut of vessels. Rates for medium-range (MR) tankers for 37,000 tonne cargoes on the TC2 route from Rotterdam to New York were at W124.38 in the Worldscale measure, or $8,306 a day when translated into average earnings. Rickmers Tianjin Named in Mumbai

As part of its upgrading program for its Europe India service, Rickmers-Linie, has added the 17,000dwt newbuilding Rickmers Tianjin to the schedule. The base ports served are Hamburg, Antwerp, Genoa, Mumbai and Chennai but the service is capable of serving a wide variety of additional ports on inducement. Rickmers Tianjin joins her sistership Rickmers Yokohama and the charter ships Linde, Martin and Baltic Winter on the Indian service. On her maiden voyage from Europe, Rickmers Tianjin was named in the Port of Mumbai on 9 January.
