Maersk India Trade Report Q2 2019

India’s containerized trade growth slowed to 1% (9% in the same period last year) in Q2 2019, due to a cocktail of international factors such as slowing trade growth, and growing trade tensions – coupled with domestic factors like rural consumer distress, tightening liquidity and a slow-down in key manufacturing sectors. Combined, these triggers impacted the country’s economic activity, slowing overall import-export growth.West India delivered the highest growth with imports growing at 4% and exports at 11%.

Record-breaking demands for coal and agriculture products propelled the Port of Indiana-Mount Vernon into historic territory with more barge shipments in the first six months of 2018 than any port in the history of Indiana's ports.Approximately 4.7 million tons of cargo moved through the port in the first six months of 2018, an increase of 36 percent from the same time last year. Key drivers of the record shipments included maritime shipping increases in coal, grain, dried distillers grain, calcined coke, salt and soy products.

MOL Invests in PKT Logistics

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that it completed the acquisition of 14.27% shares in PKT Logistics Group, a Malaysian logistics company. MOL's stake will rise from the current 20.86% to 35.13%.PKT provides end-to-end logistics solutions comprising freight forwarding, customs brokerage, contract logistics, haulage, distribution and others, to its customers from diverse market sectors.PKT owns and operates warehouses hub in Shah Alam, Selangor, offering over 55,000m2 of warehouse space in total.

DP World Acquires India's Continental Warehousing

Liverpool2 to Receive New Container Services

Peel Ports’ flagship deep-water container terminal, Liverpool2, will welcome its largest regular caller to date when 2M (Maersk and MSC alliance) introduce a new transatlantic container service to the port beginning July 22, 2018.2M is switching its TA2 service from Felixstowe to Liverpool on a temporary basis. At the same time, Maersk Line’s South American service, Colombia Express, will also start calling at the port of Liverpool, exporting UK goods to Newark.Liverpool will be the final port of call for both weekly services as they head westbound across the Atlantic.

Yilport Makes a Bid for Taranto Container Terminal

Yilport Holding has submitted its offer for Taranto Container Terminal concession in Italy. Ionian Sea Port Authority (AdSP), the managing institution of Port of Taranto has officially received the request of Yilport Holding to operate the entire set of multi-purpose port facilities in the Port of Taranto. These terminals in Southern Italy handle container traffic, bulk cargo and serve ro-ro traffic. Well located as a relay hub for the Mediterranean Sea, the terminals are integrated to intermodal networks, connecting Southern Italy to Northern Italy and finally to the center of Europe.

HHLA Completes Acquisition of Estonian Transiidikeskuse

Germany’s Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has completed the acquisition of Estonia’s largest terminal operator, Transiidikeskuse AS (TK). The last conditions that the sales contract dated 26 March 2018 was subject to were recently fulfilled, resulting in all shares in Transiidikeskuse AS being transferred to HHLA International GmbH. As a result, the transaction has now been completed. First New Crane Begins Work at Port of Savannah

The first of Georgia Ports Authority’s four new Neo-Panamax cranes came online this week, bringing GPA’s operating fleet to 27 — more than any other single terminal in the nation. “Georgia’s ports are dedicated to staying a step ahead of market demand,” said GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch. The super-sized crane is tall enough to lift containers 152 feet above the dock. The crane started work before dawn Wednesday on a 13,300 twenty-foot equivalent container unit Hapag Lloyd vessel.

Savannah Harbor Expansion Project Nears Completion

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed outer harbor dredging at the Port of Savannah, marking the midpoint of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP). "The completion of outer harbor dredging marks the midpoint for SHEP and represents a crucial milestone for the Savannah community, the State of Georgia and the nation as a whole," said Deal. "The Port of Savannah is already the second busiest port in the nation for exports and the timely completion of this project will be a major step forward for our nation's infrastructure.

Concordia Maritime Charters Two MR Tankers

Concordia Maritime has signed a contract for the chartering of two IMO2/3 class MR tankers. This a joint chartering arrangement with Stena Weco, and Concordia Maritime’s share amounts to 50 percent. The contract is for one year, and the charters run from June and July 2017. The vessels were built in 2013 and are ECO-design tankers. They will be operated by Stena Weco, which has a fully integrated global logistics network for the transportation of petroleum products, light chemical and vegetable oils. The overall fleet comprises about 60 MR vessels.

Heinrich Ahlers Retires from Buss Group

Heinrich Ahlers has wrapped-up his remaining responsibilities at the Buss Group, and will begin his retirement shortly before his 65th birthday.
