India's biggest container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) handled 0.418 million TEUs in January this year, which was highest ever container traffic handled during a month the port and increase of 13 percent over the same month last year. The Indian Minister of Shipping Nitin Gadkari will perform the Bhoomi Poojan (Ground breaking ceremony) the Wardha dry port at Sindi (Railway) in Wardha, Maharashtra on 2nd October, 2017. The Dry Port is being developed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in a bid to cater effective logistics services to the industries in Vidarbha region and improve cargo throughput at the Port. Iran's Chabahar Port Signs Pact with India Ports Global
India Ports Global has signed a contract with Aria Banader of Iran to equip and operate two terminals at Chabahar - Shahid -Beheshti Port in Iran for transportation of goods and other purposes. "As per Article 6 of the contract, effort are to be made to commence commercial operations at Chabahar –Shahid- Beheshti Port in Iran within 18 months from the contract activation date or 4 months from the date on which the Lessor hands over the Terminals and the infrastructure facilities to the Lessee in accordance with the terms of the Contract," said a press release from the government.
JNPT Registers 5.11% Growth in Container Traffic
India's largest container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT)registered a growth of 5.11 per cent in container traffic in the first quarter of 2017-18. According to a press statement, the JNPT handled 1.20 million TEUs in the first quarter of the current financial year as compared to 1.14 million TEUs in the corresponding quarter of the last financial year. Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) handled 4.01 lakh TEUs during this period as against 3.99 lakh TEUs in the corresponding quarter of the last year, showing 0.5% growth.
India's Largest Container Port Trying to Recover from Cyber Attack
The National Cyber Security Coordinator Dr Gulshan Rai visited Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to assess the impact of the global cyber attack that has disrupted the operations of one of the container terminals at the port. He, together with Chief Commissioner Customs and Excise, Chairman-JNPT and Inspector General-Cyber Maharashtra held discussions with the officials of GTI Terminal, DP World and officials of JNPT. Nitin Gadkari Lays Foundation of USD 173 mln Projects at Mumbai Port
To boost port infrastructure, Indian Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari laid foundation stone of eight connectivity projects worth Rs 1,117.03 crore (USD 173 mln ) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai. The projects include integrated common rail yard facility at JNPT, construction of coastal berth, and restructuring of yard behind shallow water berth, the Ministry of Shipping said in a release. Channel Dredging to Commence in Mumbai
Dredging works for the deepening and widening of the access channel toward Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai, India is scheduled to commence in the coming weeks and last for approximately two years. The dredging will enable the country’ largest container handling port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, to accommodate larger container vessels. JNPT Gets Radiological Detection Equipment at Exit Gates
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai has become the first major port in the country to install radiological detection equipment (RDE) at all its exit road and rail gates. An official press release said the Marine Department of the port had taken up the project and the work was awarded to the public sector Electronic Corporation of India (ECIL) in 2012 at a total cost of Rs. 23.324 crore. Twenty-eight Vehicle Monitor Systems have been installed at the Road, Rail, Exit Gates.

$301 mln Dredging Operation by JNPT
The board of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s biggest container port, has approved Rs 2000 crore ($301 mln) dredging operation of the channel between Bombay Port Trust (BPT) and its own end to facilitate bigger ships docking/berthing at the port premises. Currently, the port with a draft of 14 metres (tidal) is capable of receiving ships that can carry 11,000 containers and on April 1, a ship with 13,900 containers will call on the port reflecting the greater draft capacity. The new proposal is to increase the depth to 15 meter.
