One Minato Shines Through Port of Yantian

ONE Accepts Delivery of 14,000 TEU Box Ship

Singapore headquartered container carrier Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE) has taken delivery of a new 14,000 TEU-class containership from Japanese shipbuilder Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, on July 24, 2018.The new ultra-large containership, One Minato, was built at Imabari’s Hiroshima yard and joins the ONE fleet under sublet from Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.

'K' Line takes Delivery of 14,000-TEU Containership

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., Tokyo, (“K” Line) has taken delivery a new 14,000-TEU containership, Milano Bridge, built at Hiroshima Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, Japan and handed over on January 18, 2018. This new ultra-large containership (ULCS) is the same as a series delivered in 2015 and is the first ship of the second generation. MOL Truth, Japan's 1st 20,000 TEU Containership, Delivered

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL)  announced that one of world's largest containerships, the MOL Truth, was delivered at the Saijo Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (President: Yukito Higaki, Headquarters: Imabari-shi, Ehime Prefecture) on October 31. The MOL Truth is the first containership with a capacity of over 20,000 TEU built in Japan, and the fifth in a series of six 20,000 TEU containerships that are operated by MOL. On October 25, it was named the MOL Truth. The new containership is 400m long, with a breadth of 58.5m, and has a loading capacity of 20,182 TEU.

MHI Pact for Domestic Shipbuilders on Forming Alliances

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has reached basic agreements with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in the wake of ongoing discussions focused on forming alliances in the commercial ship business. Discussions toward concluding a similar alliance with Oshima Shipbuilding continue. The agreements are targeted at achieving sustained growth through the pursuit of mutually complementary, synergy-generating alliances while respecting each partner’s independence, in an overall effort to strengthen the competitiveness of all alliance partners in the global marketplace.

Mega 20,150 TEU Containership Named MOL Triumph

A new 20,150 TEU containership has captured the “world’s largest” title: MOL Triumph, the first in a series of new mega containerships for Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., (MOL) was named at Samsung Heavy Industries, Ltd.’s (SHI) Geoje, South Korea shipyard. MOL Triumph is the first of four 20,000 TEU class ultra-large container carriers ordered by MOL in February 2015 to be built by SHI for 2017 delivery. Japanese Yards Mull Shipbuilding Alliance

Four major Japanese shipbuilders are in discussions to form an alliance in hopes of riding out the industry slump. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) announced in a press release today that it has entered talks with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. “The move toward forming these alliances targets the integration of MHI's strengths in shipbuilding technology and engineering with the three prospective partners' manufacturing capabilities and cost competitiveness,” MHI said.

Evergreen Line Orders Ten 2,800 teu Ships

Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen is ordering ten 2,800 TEU container ships from Japanese shipbuilder Imabari Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd and compatriot CSBC Corporation. The deal between the companies is to buy 10 new 2800 TEU container vessels. The Contract value is $390mln. The first ship is scheduled to be delivered during the first half of 2018 with the final ship in the series is due by the first half of 2019. These are in addition to the order for ten similar vessels announced last month from CSBC in Taiwan.

NYK Charters 2 LNG Carriers for Freeport LNG Project

Two joint-venture companies that NYK has established with Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc. each concluded a time-charter contract for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier with Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc. In addition, one of the joint-venture companies, Trans Pacific Shipping 6 Limited, concluded a shipbuilding contract with MI LNG Company Limited,* and other joint-venture company, Trans Pacific Shipping 7 Limited, concluded a shipbuilding contract with Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.

Imabari to Construct Newbuilding Dry Dock

In order to accommodate construction of Ultra-Large newbuilding vessels including recently secured 20,000TEU Mega container ships (about 400m in length and about 59m breadth), Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has decided to construct a large newbuilding dry dock of about 600m length x 80m breadth on the reclaimed land (about 100,000㎡) which is located next to our Marugame Headquarters (Marugame City). The reclaimed land was sold off by the Marugame City Land Development Public Corporations.

Imabari Bags Order for 11 ULCCs

Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Imabari), with the cooperation of Marubeni Corporation, has secured newbuilding order for eleven (11) units of 20,000TEU Ultra-Large Container Carriers, the largest type container carriers in the world as of today. These state of the art newbuilding vessels have been developed for overseas ship-owners, fully adopting eco-friendly feature and most advanced energy efficiency technology. She has dimensions of about 400m in length with about 59m breadth. The first vessel is scheduled to be completed in early 2018.

Mitsui Orders 2 LNG Carriers from MHI

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) reports it has received an order for two next-generation LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers from Mitsui & Co., Ltd., scheduled for completion and delivery in 2018 and 2019, respectively. They will be put into service for the Cameron LNG Project underway in the United States, an initiative in which Mitsui is participating, marking the first order placed to MHI for LNG carriers to transport shale gas. The order for the two LNG carriers was received through MI LNG Company, Limited, a joint venture between MHI and Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

New Bulker Design Introduced by Imabari Shipbuilding

Japan's Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. introduce a new class of 33,000 dwt bulk carrier designated 'IS' TRI-STAR. The shipbuilders say that its share of the handy-size bulk carrier market is ranked among the highest in the world. Since 2010, over 30 vessels of the "IS" BARI-STAR, 38,000 dwt-type bulk carrier have been delivered, and over 200 vessels of  the 28,000 dwt-type have been delivered since 1990. However, to satisfy customer demand they have decided to launch their newly developed 33,000 dwt- type bulk carrier –  "IS" TRI-STAR into the handy-size bulk carrier market.

MHI Licenses Deck Machinery Tech To Imabari Shipbuilding

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) signed an agreement with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, under which MHI licenses production and marketing of deck machinery. Through licensing, MHI aims to expand market share of deck machinery based on the company's technology and, at the same time, respond to requests from Imabari, which looks to enhance business through deck machinery production. The production of licensed machinery is scheduled to be started in April 2013.
