Unlocking New LNG Transfer Possibilities

Cryogenic hose technology is driving a rethink of LNG transfer in bunkering – and beyond. Many backers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, as well as wider industry stakeholders, have for a while now suggested that it will soon enjoy exponential growth as a future bunker fuel. There are several factors behind this; the increasing number of emissions control areas (ECAs) requiring bunker fuel of 0.1 percent sulphur (SOx) to be burnt near coastal areas where the burning of dirtier heavy fuel oil (HFO) is forbidden.

Houlder Recruits Walker for Marine Assurance Business

Marine consultancy and engineering provider, Houlder has announced the recruitment of Neil Walker to develop a Marine Assurance Services business. Walker was previously Europe Regional Manager for Global Maritime Consultancy Ltd. His experience covers key areas such as Marine Installation and Warranty Services, Expert Witness, Naval Architecture and Design Consultancy. His expertise includes platform installation and decommissioning, mooring and riser analyzes and tanker-based systems.

New Engineering Director for Houlder

Independent engineering services company Houlder has announced a new addition to its senior management team. Aaron McDougall, formerly Marine and Engineering Manager at KCA Deutag, has joined as Engineering Director. He will be heading up Houlder’s newly formed advanced analysis group. This new position will focus on the increasing amount of work Houlder is undertaking with a high engineering content and fulfilling the need for increased efficiencies. Subsea Innovator Wins SUT Award

Thirty year old napkin sketch became a reality in 2015. The Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) has presented its President’s Award to Dr Kjell Olav Stinessen in recognition of his long term services to industry at the Society’s AGM and annual dinner in London. Dr Stinessen has been an engineer for over 50 years and is now a First Chief Engineer at Aker Solutions. In 1985, he drew a sketch on the back of a napkin of his vision for how subsea compression might work in the future.

Houlder Americas Wins BABC Award

Houlder Americas has been named the Small International Business of the Year at the 5th Annual British-American Business Council (BABC) International Business Awards. The awards were presented during ceremonies at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston. The ceremonies were hosted by Khambrel Marshall, of KPRC- TV. The keynote address was given by political Charles Andrews of NSS Labs and Dan Solomon of Optimal Risk on the challenges and effects of trans-Atlantic cyber security. Houlder Americas Named a Business Award Finalist

Houlder Americas Inc., a subsidiary of the U.K.-based engineering group Houlder, announced it was named a finalist in the small to medium sized business category of the 2014 British-American Business Council (BABC) Houston International Business Awards to be presented in Houston on October 8. The award program encourages and recognizes companies who have made contributions and demonstrated leadership to further trade, commerce, civic, philanthropic and/or cultural relations between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Gas Ship Expertise Expands Houlder’s Offering

Marine design and engineering company Houlder announced the formation of an LNG project team in its London headquarters. Ian Meaden, Des Upcraft and Lijo Thomas joined the team this month to work exclusively on developing LNG projects in response to market requirements. The company said its new talent investment means it can build on its current LNG equipment projects to help with all aspects of marine design, engineering and project management from initial FEED study to implementation.

Industry Talent Recognized in the Offshore Achievement Awards

The offshore industry’s highest achievers were recognized at the 2013 Offshore Achievement Awards, with Malcolm Webb, chief executive of Oil & Gas UK, picking up the Significant Achievement accolade. The 27th awards ceremony, which saw a record attendance of 530 guests, took place at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre and was hosted by Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges. The industry’s top talent was celebrated in categories which included Great Large and Great Small Company, Safety Innovations and Emerging Technology.

Subsea Construction: Cable Reel System Supplied by Houlder

UK-based equipment provider Houlder deliver a 'Fast Track' cable reel system to Acteon company, Aquatic for S.America subsea work. The Reel Skidding Drive System (RSDS), designed, engineered and constructed by Houlder to the client specification, consists of a skid frame, skid trolley and push beam. Weighing 75t itself, the RSDS receives a loaded cassette reel of flexible product, engages its drive system and then transports the unit 10 metres along the vessel deck from the loading to the product deployment position. It is designed to operate at sea in all but storm conditions.

Offshore Wind Turbine Access System Trial Completed

Houlder & BMT Nigel Gee announce that their jointly developed Turbine Access System (TAS) has successfully completed offshore trials. The TAS was fitted to Turbine Transfers’ 24m Cemlyn Bay for a four week trials period at RWE’s Rhyl Flats offshore windfarm off the coast of Wales. The TAS is a lightweight motion compensated gangway that provides substantially improved access to offshore wind turbines for maintenance personnel. It considerably increases the level of safety and operability, both of which are prime goals for offshore wind farm operators and developers.
