Cruise Ship Stranded by Coronavirus Fears to Dock in Cambodia

Cambodia has agreed to let a cruise ship, that has been turned away by five countries over fears that someone aboard may have the coronavirus, to dock and disembark its passengers, the Holland America Line said on Wednesday.The MS Westerdam, which has 1,455 passengers and 802 crew on board, will dock at the Cambodian sea port of Sihanoukville on Thursday, the company said.The ship - which says it has no sick passengers - has been turned away from Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Guam and the Philippines. (Writing by Kay Johnson; Editing by Andrew Heavens)

SMS Group Completes Refit for Holland America

The SMS Group has completed two pieces of major interior outfit work for Holland America Line in the Caribbean and Canada.This division is led by industry veteran Dan Lockyer. In respect to the recent wins Dan said: “We completed these first two, major projects, on time and on budget. “The Noordam refit, undertaken in the Seaspan yard in Victoria, Canada, We had over 20 men onsite, with two project managers, and completed works in 742 cabins. “The Volendam was similar, although a slightly smaller project. The works were undertaken in Freeport, Grand Bahamas.

Carnival to Build 2 New Ports in Bahamas

British-American cruise operator Carnival Corporation and two of its cruise line brands have signed an agreement with the government of The Bahamas to build two major port developments.The world's largest travel leisure company, with a combined fleet of over 100 vessels across 10 cruise line brands, said that it will develop a new cruise port destination primarily for Carnival Cruise Line on Grand Bahama, and construction of a new addition, including a pier, on the Bahamian island of Little San Salvador…

Maiden Call by Marella at Port of Kiel

On Tuesday morning (16th July) the cruise ship “Marella Explorer” berthed in the port of Kiel with 2,000 mostly anglophone passengers on-board. The vessel follows an itinerary of 14 days leading it all across the Baltic Sea. It started in Newcastle on 13th July and will conclude its cruise in the same port on July 27th.On the occasion of its maiden call, the Lord Mayor of Kiel, Dr Ulf Kämpfer, welcomed Captain John Spencer Clark to the State Capital City of Schleswig-Holstein and presented him with the traditional inaugural plaque.

Nieuw Statendam's Maiden Call in Amsterdam

The newest cruise ship in the Holland America Line fleet, the Nieuw Statendam, made its maiden call to the port of Amsterdam on Sunday, 5 May 2019.The second Pinnacle Class ship moored at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) and was welcomed with a water salute by Port of Amsterdam. Cruise Season Kick-off in the Port of Kiel

The call by the cruise vessel “AIDAcara” on Sunday, April 7th, marks the beginning of Kiel’s cruise season 2019. Dr Dirk Claus, Managing Director at PORT OF KIEL (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG): “The upcoming cruise season will be very exciting and we will welcome a lot of new ships to Kiel. The second and new terminal building at the Ostseekai is presently under construction and we are working on the implementation of the onshore power project.” The port is currently investing about 30 million Euros in the cruise sector. Half of this amount is dedicated to sustainability measures.

100+ Cruise Ships to call in at Rotterdam in 2019

At Cruise Ship Interiors Expo, we’re working to ensure gender balance throughout the event, but specifically in the conference portion. Findings from Dezeen’s ‘Move the Needle’ initiative have shown that the conference-side of events is where the gender balance is let down the most, as it can be particularly hard to find women speakers who want to, and are able to, speak.

Port of Kiel: More than 2.2 mln Passengers This Year

The economic importance of nautical tourism for Schleswig-Holstein is continuing to increase. More than 2.2 million passengers are expected in the port of Kiel alone this year, forecasting record numbers like 600,000 cruise passengers and 1.6 million ferry travelers.Last year, passengers generated a turnover of about 68 million Euros in Kiel. The consumer spending of the port’s ferry passengers amounts to more than 53 million Euros. These are complemented by another 15 million Euros spent by cruise passengers and the crews.

Seafarers’ House to Honor AMO's Doell

Paul Doell, National President of the American Maritime Officers (AMO), has been selected as the recipient of Seafarers’ House International Golden Compass Award for 2019.The award is given each year to those who have achieved distinction in the maritime world, those whose vocation or avocation has been the sea, or those who have ministered to or otherwise assisted seafarers.Doell, who heads the nation’s largest union of licensed seagoing professionals, has served the organization for 47 years.

Port of Kiel: Passenger Volume Up, Cargo Down

More than 2.2 million passengers and again over 7 million cargo tons handledKiel continues to pursue its growth course in passenger traffic posting a 4.2 % increase with 2.2 million travelers. At the same time, the port’s cargo sector was unable to match the top results of the reference period (2017: 7.4 million tons, +14.3 %). The handling performance decreased by 3.5 % to 7.15 tons of cargo in 2018. In order to further improve the port’s infrastructure, investment activities have accelerated once again.

Carnival to Launch Four Ships in 2019

Fincantieri Built Carnival Panorama

Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in Venice launched the Carnival Panorama, a sister ship of the 4,000-passenger Carnival Vista and Carnival Horizon.The the largest shipbuilder in Europe said in a press release that interior fittings will now begin, leading the ship to its delivery, scheduled in autumn 2019.The launching of the Carnival Cruise Line vessel was introduced by the traditional and well-wishing “coin ceremony”, consisting, according to an ancient shipbuilding custom, in welding a silver dollar on the last deck of the ship.

Fincantieri Delivers Nieuw Statendam

Nieuw Statendam, the new cruise ship of Holland America Line, was presented at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice. Holland America Line is a brand under Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise operator.The vessel is the 16th Holland America Line ship built by Fincantieri and is the line’s second Pinnacle-class ship after Koningsdam, delivered in 2016.The 99,902-ton vessel accommodates 2,666 guests and is the ultimate expression of the Holland America Line brand.

Kiel Reports Successful Cruise Shipping Season

Kiel closes its latest cruise shipping season on Sunday, October 28th with the visit of the AIDAbella.This year the port has been visited 166 times by 33 different cruise ships with a combined gross tonnage of more than 11 million. For the first time close to 600,000 cruise ship passengers, 16.4 percent more than last year, have passed through the port’s terminal facilities to end or embark on cruises. Holland America Line Sells Prinsendam to Phoenix Reisen

The Seattle-based Holland America Line said its small ship  835-passenger Prinsendam had been sold to a company that would put it in service with a German cruise operator Phoenix Reisen. Holland America said the ship will leave the Holland America fleet on July 1, 2019. For sailings after July 1, 2019 Holland America Line says it is reaching out to booked passengers and their travel professionals to re-accommodate guests. At 37,983 tons, Prinsendam is more than 30% smaller than the next smallest vessel in the Holland America fleet.

Carnival Scoops Up Port, Rail and Retail Operations in Alaska

A subsidiary of Carnival Corporation has reached a deal to purchase port, railroad and retail operations that form a gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush region, in a major push into the Alaskan tourism industry.Carnival, the world’s largest cruise and leisure travel company, announced Thursday it has entered a purchase and sale agreement through its subsidiary Holland America Princess Alaska Tours to acquire TWC Enterprises Limited’s White Pass & Yukon Route (WP&YR) division, which includes port, railroad and retail operations in Skagway, Alaska.

Seafarers’ House Launches $4.5m Campaign

Seafarers’ House at Port Everglades has launched the public phase of its “Place of Welcome” Campaign to build a new home for the mariners who visit the port.
