Cruise Ship Stranded by Coronavirus Fears to Dock in Cambodia
Cambodia has agreed to let a cruise ship, that has been turned away by five countries over fears that someone aboard may have the coronavirus, to dock and disembark its passengers, the Holland America Line said on Wednesday.The MS Westerdam, which has 1,455 passengers and 802 crew on board, will dock at the Cambodian sea port of Sihanoukville on Thursday, the company said.The ship - which says it has no sick passengers - has been turned away from Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Guam and the Philippines. Maiden Call by Marella at Port of Kiel
On Tuesday morning (16th July) the cruise ship “Marella Explorer” berthed in the port of Kiel with 2,000 mostly anglophone passengers on-board. The vessel follows an itinerary of 14 days leading it all across the Baltic Sea. Cruise Season Kick-off in the Port of Kiel
The call by the cruise vessel “AIDAcara” on Sunday, April 7th, marks the beginning of Kiel’s cruise season 2019. Dr Dirk Claus, Managing Director at PORT OF KIEL (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG): “The upcoming cruise season will be very exciting and we will welcome a lot of new ships to Kiel. The second and new terminal building at the Ostseekai is presently under construction and we are working on the implementation of the onshore power project.” The port is currently investing about 30 million Euros in the cruise sector. Port of Kiel: More than 2.2 mln Passengers This Year
The economic importance of nautical tourism for Schleswig-Holstein is continuing to increase. More than 2.2 million passengers are expected in the port of Kiel alone this year, forecasting record numbers like 600,000 cruise passengers and 1.6 million ferry travelers.Last year, passengers generated a turnover of about 68 million Euros in Kiel. The consumer spending of the port’s ferry passengers amounts to more than 53 million Euros. These are complemented by another 15 million Euros spent by cruise passengers and the crews.

Port of Kiel: Passenger Volume Up, Cargo Down
More than 2.2 million passengers and again over 7 million cargo tons handledKiel continues to pursue its growth course in passenger traffic posting a 4.2 % increase with 2.2 million travelers. At the same time, the port’s cargo sector was unable to match the top results of the reference period (2017: 7.4 million tons, +14.3 %). The handling performance decreased by 3.5 % to 7.15 tons of cargo in 2018. In order to further improve the port’s infrastructure, investment activities have accelerated once again.

Holland America Line Sells Prinsendam to Phoenix Reisen
The Seattle-based Holland America Line said its small ship 835-passenger Prinsendam had been sold to a company that would put it in service with a German cruise operator Phoenix Reisen. Holland America said the ship will leave the Holland America fleet on July 1, 2019. For sailings after July 1, 2019 Holland America Line says it is reaching out to booked passengers and their travel professionals to re-accommodate guests. At 37,983 tons, Prinsendam is more than 30% smaller than the next smallest vessel in the Holland America fleet.
