SC Ports Reports Record Box Volumes

South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) announced calendar year-to-date container volume increases of 13 percent and the strongest July on record. Since the calendar year began, SCPA has handled 1.3 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), compared to 1.14 million TEUs during the same period last year. The port moved 182,411 TEUs in July, breaking the previous record of 177,265 TEUs achieved in July 2016. Last month was also a record July for pier container volume, or box volume.

Foxx Names New Members to Maritime Industry Advisory Panel

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced the appointment of 29 new members to the Marine Transportation System National Advisory Committee (MTSNAC). Established in 2010, MTSNAC is comprised of leaders from commercial transportation firms, ship construction, repair and recycling, trade associations, state and local public entities, labor organizations, academics, and environmental groups that advise the Secretary and the Maritime Administration on policies to ensure that the U.S. Marine Transportation System is capable of responding to projected trade increases.

New USACE Contract

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC., was awarded on Sept. 28, 2009 a $8,126,971 firm-fixed-price contract for the maintenance dredging, Station 99+000 to Station 250+440, inland waterway, Delaware River to Chesapeake Bay, Delaware and Maryland.  Work is to be performed in Chesapeake City, Md., with an estimated completion date of Feb. 20, 2010. Nine bids were solicited with three bids received. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia, Pa., is the contracting activity (W912BU-09-C-0058).

New Navy Contract

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC, Oak Brook, Ill., is being awarded a $9,584,080 firm-fixed price contract for dredging services at the Naval Submarine Base New London. The work to be performed provides for dredging services for pier side slips along the waterfront quay wall. Work will be performed in Groton, Conn., and is expected to be completed by Feb. 2010. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online website, with two proposals received.
