Seaspan Selects Alfa Laval's Steam Solution

Seaspan Ship Management selected Alfa Laval to help resolve steam balance and redundancy issues connected to sulfur-compliant fuels. The solution – an integrated steam boiler plant comprising oil-fired steam production, waste heat recovery, advanced control and connectivity – will be implemented on eight Seaspan-owned large container ships.Prior to the IMO global sulfur cap’s entry into force, Seaspan Ship Management made the decision to work with sulfur-compliant fuels on its container vessels.

MES-S Delivers 66,000 Dwt Bulker Newbuild

Japanese shipbuilder Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding (MES-S) has handed over a 66,000 dwt bulk carrier to Liberia-based Tomaros Navigation at its Tamano Shipyard.The newbuild is named M/V Tomaros."This is the 20th ship of our "neo66BC", the "wide beam shallow draft vessel" of our line-up "neo series"," said the shipbuilder.Featuring a length of 200 meters and a width of 36 meters, the 38,234 GT bulker flies the flag of the Bahamas.Tomaros has four cranes and five cargo holds, and keeps the superior usability of 56BC.The vessel is designed to have enough deadweight more than 66…

UK P&I Club Advises on Safe Soya Bean Transport

Petar Modev, Senior Loss Prevention Executive at UK P&I Club, working closely with the expert consultancy CWA International, has produced a guidance on the safe carriage of soya beans. “There have been recent reports of severe delays to trucks transporting soya beans to barges on the Amazon as a result of poor road conditions. This will have an impact on any vessels awaiting soya bean deliveries at the Northern Arc ports in Brazil through increasing the storage time prior to shipment, and increasing the likelihood of cargo claims.

Keppel Secures Marine Projects worth S$120 mln

ClassNK Amends Rules for Steel Ships

Classification society ClassNK has amended its rules and guidance for the survey and construction of steel ships. ClassNK said it regularly revises and amends its rules and guidance as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the safety of life and property at sea, reflecting the latest research and development results, feedback from damage investigations, requests from the industry as well as changes made to relevant international conventions, International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Unified Requirements and national regulations.
